I am a master's candidate in nursing and I've been an RN for 20 years. This book was required text for my program, a sort of review of the most up to date examination techniques and is suitable reading for nurse practitioners. If you are getting your initial RN at any level, I absolutely recommend this book---you will pass any assessment/exam question on your board and the techniques detailed in the book will save your patients' lives.
First of all, this book is exactly the same as the regular edition, so don't worry about getting the "South Asian" edition. It's cheaper than the normal one. Page numbers for assigned readings in my class aligned perfectly with those for the regular edition of the book. Only differenes I could note: this is a paperback, the cover appears different (than the dark blue one), and it contains an appendix of case studies in the back.I gave this book only 3 stars because I didn't find it very useful. I bought it as an assigned text for an Advanced Physical Assessment class in Nursing school. This book is not specific to nursing, and thus it wasn't the best resource. Sure it provides info about physical assessment, but in nursing documentation, you're rarely going to use this terminology. It's much more suited for medical students, PA's or NP's... anyone diagnosing. For nursing, it was much too specific and not descriptive enough.
Gives you access to online ebook. It's in paperback form. As far as I know, the SE and US edition contents are the same. Buy this to save $30-40. I gave it 3 stars for the fact that the pages within the book are paper thin! I use both online ebook and paperback forms when reading and studying. Lately, I have been using the online version more since I'm always on my Macbook researching and doing assignments for NP school.
Content is decent, but the binding on the book fell apart in the first thirty days :-( Multiple other members of my class had the same problem... most within the first couple weeks. Highly recommend not purchasing the soft cover edition, but the hardcover edition instead.
I received this book to realize that it's the South Asian Edition! The picture does show (very blurrily) that this is the South Asian edition, but no where in the description does it say that the product is this edition! I will be returning it as soon as possible, since I can't use it.
Recommended for medical students and residents. The art of physical exam skills has declined since the notion of a 15 min exam came about. To truly hone in your skills as a physician, especially in primary care, Bates' Guide to Physical Examination and History Taking is a great book to read! So much is lost by deducing differential diagnoses based on lab results, not to mention the increasing cost of healthcare. Take the time to improve your physical examination skills and you may improve patient care.
The product description never stated I would be getting the Southeast Asian edition and I am very disappointed with this purchase.
Exactly the same as the hard back version, even had the CD and the online code.
