For me, the book worked because our instructors used many of the vignettes and questions on our exam. However, for the general student of medicine, this book is ridiculous. For example, after presenting a short patient vignette, it asks for a differential. Working with friends, I tried to come up with three reasonable diagnoses given the symptoms. The book would give three, but two of the three would be completely UNreasonable. It would say something like, "Diagnosis #1 relies on findings of A, B, C, and D. However, our patient does not report A, C, or D, so this diagnosis is unlikely."I didn't find that to be at all helpful.Additionally, the multiple choice and matching questions are quite easy, probably too easy to be useful for anyone more than a few months into your training, regardless of field (RN, PA, MD, etc...).All in all, I think this book is a waste of money for most people. Just read the margin notes in Bates, and review the tables at the end of each chapter, and you'll get a much better review than this will provide.
This is helpful for a general review, but it absolutely does not take place from reading all of the textbook material. The only way to do well on the tests is to have read the text book, focusing on the pink highlighted areas.
I used this guide book when I was in Family Nurse Practitioner Program, my daughter also used it in medical school. It has excellent head to toe physical assessment, the back pain write up is so good.I still refer to this book from time to time.
Excellent resource and guide to just what I was needing.Helped me to format my own individual write ups. I used it as a guide until I felt comfortable and am now able to completely write up my own. Thanks Bates!
This workbook is a great tool, the case studies are very complete, the rationales provided in the back of the book are helpful in understanding the differential diagnoses.
I bought this to supplement the digital version of Bates Guide to Physical Examination. Unfortunately, this publication has no new additional information. On the chapters I have looked at there are no additional case studies or questions so it is of no value.
This book is pretty good for the basics. I feel that it was a good book for the first year of medical school learning to do a complete history and physical.
Good practice. If you don't understand the original book, this will bring it to reality. Good product, comes as ebook, even easier to access.
