This resource is excellent for genealogy research. The number of names, though far from complete, are easy to access from the table of contents. The author does try to give the history of some of the more important clans.I wish he would have included more names from the lesser clans.
Surprised that so many clans were listed. It's a great read and a real study. With 's Kindle Books I can read on my tablet, laptop or desktop -- wherever I happen to be working or waiting. Amazed at how much time I have enjoyed while waiting in doctor's offices, etc., that would otherwise have been wasted.
A fairly comprehensive list, although it missed our clan in Galloway. My McDonald's were basically covered. Does not include tartans which could have easily been included. But as a very, very basic guide it is adequate.Definitely a beginning point & the price was right!
So, I found a bit of history about the clan of my wife and my brother in low. Not too much though but that's not the aim of the book. It offers just basic information which for myself at this stage was fair enough.
This book has wonderful information regarding the history of many clans in Scotland. It discusses the families and some of their history. If possible, the information provided even leads up to current families and where they live. This is a book I can use for reference when reading about Scotland and its history. It provides great insight into the struggles this country, and its inhabitants, endured in the past.
I gave it 3 stars as this book would not appeal to a lot of people. First of all it is not quick reading and secondly, a lot of people are not interested in the origin of names. I am because it is so interesting to learn that names we consider to be very Scots or English or Italian, or what ever , actually have their origins from the countries which invaded them. For instance, in the case of the Scots the country was invaded by the Romans, the Vikings, the French and one clan name has Flemish roots I learned. When the invaders stayed and intermarried, they left definite imprints of their culture which in turn became incorporated into the culture that was invaded.
This "e-book" is nothing more than a scam. After a brief history of clans, the reader is directed to a listing of known clan names. After selecting a clan of interest, the reader is directed to Wikipedia. And the books description details over 600 pages. Rot! and shame on Kindle for allowing the fraud.
I did not order this book to be entertained; it was to gather information about the Clans. I had not realized there were so many Clans. There is enough information in the sections to give you an idea of the section of Scotland that your family had its original roots. We are early Scots who came in the early 1700's; it was valuable to me because so many of my family members are Scottish.
