This semester my adult students read two graded novels from the Cambridge series, Strong Medicine and Eye of the Storm.They overwhelmingly preferred Eye of the Storm. While both these novels are designated for Level 3 English learners, Eye of the Storm has easier language and a more straightforward plot, making it better suited for pre-intermediate learners. Additionally, the speakers in the audio version of Eye of the Storm all have American accents, while there is a mix of British and American accents in the audio version of Strong Medicine. While I personally found Strong Medicine the more interesting read, I do understand my students' preference for Eye of the Storm. Strong Medicine may be a better choice for intermediate level ESL learners.
