This book is about my German Great Grandparents, Julius Noack and Bertha Suckert Noack, who joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and emigrated to America in 1892. I became interested in the lives of my German great grandparents after I served an LDS Church mission in Germany as a young man. On my mission I learned to love the German people, and I gained some appreciation for the trials and hardships they faced throughout history. I developed a profound respect for Germans who joined the LDS Church. I saw first-hand how some of them struggled to have their parents, siblings and friends support their decision. I realized how brave and committed these new members were to the restored gospel. When I returned home from my mission I read about the lives of Grandpa and Grandma Noack with heightened interest. They also faced opposition when they joined the Church. However, they had strong convictions that the Church was true, and tremendous faith which enabled them to do very hard things. Their faith dramatically changed their lives, and those of countless numbers of their posterity. I didn’t write most of this book. It is primarily a compilation of selected excerpts from written life histories and interviews with people who knew them. I wanted to make it short and readable without omitting the events in their lives that forged their great character.
