SOULinks: Pursuing Multi-Generational Significance
Available To Downloads

At its core, life is all about relationships. We all know the benefits of close and loving relationships between grandparents and their young grandchildren. What we often overlook, however, is the incredible richness and significance of these relationships for adult grandchildren and grandparents. And further, these relationships are not, and should not, be limited to those with only biological ties. These mentoring relationships can function just as well outside typical family boundaries. This book brings together stories about real-life connections that will move you. These stories are followed by some simple ways and tools to help kick-start these relationships. It is the author's hope that this book will inspire and encourage people of all generations to pursue these kinds of relationships, termed "SOULinks."

SOULinks was a wake-up call for me. It's not too late to pursue YOUR multi-generational relationships. SOULinks inspired me to reignite my own relationship with my 94 year old grandmother, Ruth. I have so many wonderful memories of time with her when I was a young girl but life and distance caused us to grow apart only sending Christmas cards and phone calls on birthdays. There are questions I want to ask her and stories I want to hear her tell. And I'm encouraging my children to engage with their grandparents more. It's too easy to get caught up in technology as a means to communicate - my children need to learn to engage with them at a different level. I didn't understand the importance of that until I read SOULinks. The stories are meaningful and I was moved by each of them. Thank you, Joan, for getting this message to us!

What a beautiful book about finding more richness in life. This look at multi-generational relationships made me want to connect with those older and younger. Wright shares stories of relationships that in many cases, would never occur, but for happenstance. Some older/younger pairs are tied by blood, others by proximity, but all are intentional. The author shows the beauty in connecting and learning from those who are at different places in their life experience. They young can learn from the wisdom of their elders, but the elders discover a new relevance and excitement. In fact, the benefits to both are backed-up by research.Wright doesn't just share the relationships; she encourages and challenges us to create Soulinks of our own. This book is a keeper.

I found this book to be a personal, heartfelt insight into the constructive impact of forging bonds with people of different generations. In the last few years, I have had the privilege of calling a few among the age of my parents or grand parents- close friends of mine. Similarly, my earlier impatience with the younger generations is giving way to more openness and appreciation. I read this book at a very poignant time, while rallying generations both older and younger around an ambitious project, that tested our limits both professionally and personally. It really helped reflect on the delicate bridges I was finally able to cross, and the incredible strength and resourcefulness that comes from these collective experiences. Now I am hardly cognisant of 'generation gap' when we are all in the same room working towards the same goal. Soulinks captures all the nuances, inter-personal dynamics and practicalities of successful multi generational relationships with lightness and simplicity.

In SouLinks Joan Wright inspires us to pursue intergenerational relationships. Through story, Joan convinces us that these intergenerational relationship are vital to our well being. Our souls are nourished, our appreciation of one another deepened, and our lives enhanced by meaningful relationships with people who are younger and older. In an age where we communicate by text and email, Joan reminds us how important it is to talk face to face, to, sit with one another. In SouLinks, Joan beautifully convinces us that we must seek out these relationships and be willing to commit our time and ourselves. These are opportunities to know each other's stories in a way that will ultimately impact our own story.
