My teenager is using this book, the CDs, and the online activities to help her prepare for the Registered Transcriptionist exam. It is really a self-guided course that has a lot of different ways for you to learn. The answer key is complete (though we've found at least one error thus far - to be expected). The book work has so many exercises that you will learn whatever it is covering by the time you finish them. In case you were not really focusing while doing the book work, there are online exercises, games and assessments to make sure you got it. I LOVE IT. I am so glad we got it. My teenager took a class on transcription, but did not focus. Now, she is doing MY CLASS (with this book), and I am not letting her move on to the next chapter till she gets 100% on her assessments. I have created custom typing tests online for her to practice her speed typing these terms. Other than that, this book and its materials really are a "student-directed approach." Well done Elsevier.
It's exactly what I needed for class. It's acutally really fun to go through all of the activities because I am able to retain all of the information that is presented in each chapter. Great book for anybody interested in learning medical terminology.
The only thing that bothers me about this book are the exercises. Was a pain trying to get added to my instructors class in Evolve and then the sound was an issue once I was able to add to the class. I currently can only hear the dictionary and take quizzes in the mobile area. The book exercises are repetative, too. i.e. in one exercise you need to analyze and define terms and in the very next exercise, where you need to build disease and disorder terms, the exact same terms are used in the exact same order! There are soooooo many terms to choose from you would think they would have made the book exercises more challenging.
