The Snail Soup Can Decoy to keep the candy stash safe. The Customizable “Keep Out” Sign to deter meddlesome siblings and parents. A Bunk Bed Communicator made from cardboard tubes (“Psst! Can you keep the snoring down?”). Clever, whimsical, and kind of genius, here are 67 unique projects that will turn any dad with DIY leanings into a mad scientist hero that his kid(s) will adore. No screens, no hi-tech gadgetry. Made by Dad combines the rough-edged, handmade ethos of a Boy Scout manual or The Dangerous Book for Boys with a sly sense of humor that kids love. Scott Bedford, a creative director by day and Webby Award–winning blogger by nights and weekends, wields an X-ACTO knife, magic marker, and prodigious imagination to create endlessly delightful projects for his two sons. He knows that kids like contraptions and gadgets, things that are surprising―a chair that appears to be balanced on eggshells. Things that are complex―a multilevel city, with buildings, tunnels, and roads, built from old boxes around the legs of a table. And especially things with humor―the Snappy Toast Rack, made to resemble a crocodile’s gaping mouth. The projects are shown in full-color photographs, and the instructions are illustrated in detailed line drawings that exude personality. Some are quick and simple enough to be done in a coffee shop; others are more of an afternoon project― yielding hours and hours of rich, imaginative playtime.

This is one of the very few project books I've seen that made me giggle my head off. Scott's ideas are so funny, and I can imagine these projects surprising and delighting kids (grownups, too). And I love that all these projects are made from materials lying about the house: cardboard, scrap paper, markers, a craft knife. Some projects take just a few minutes, some are day-long projects you can build with your kids, and some are for adult hands only.Every step of each project is illustrated with the author's cool drawing style. You get to walk through every step of construction visually, which, for projects like these with a little engineering genius behind them, is stellar. I give this one a total A+ in the instructional department. There's also a lot of great stuff with moving parts, or hidden magic, or a little science. Many of these projects would be great learning tools for kids.

I got this for my husband for fathers day, it's really good but my kids are 4yrs old and the stuff is for a little bit older kids. so we will put it away for a while until kids are bit older.

My son got this when he was six and has been pouring over the blueprints for almost a year. We have built a few of the projects and they are so much fun. You don't have to be an artist as long as you aren't a perfectionist. Let kids draw how they like and they will have a great time. I also bought a similar book that is a mom version, but it doesn't have as many pictures. I think he will like it better when he is older. For now, kid, dad AND mom are having a great time with this book.

The book has some neat ideas and is good looking on it's own. Too soon to say if any of the projects turn out as cool as they seem in the book. And some of the plans require a fair amount of pre-arrangement. These don't seem to be to easily used as 'what to do when the kids are bored on a rainy day' but they are good adult/child projects nonetheless.

My grandson loved this book when I gave it to him; along with a bag of marshmellows and spaggetti to do one of the projects!Great variety of things to make. Useful games and art work...Wished I had gotten this at the beginning of the summer instead of at the end! (So does my grandson)

A little disappointed in the content of this book. I will say the paper quality and presentation is nice and it is a a great idea, but the projects could be better. And no, I didn't get a free product or reduced price for this review. I don't know why still allows that non-sense. Please encourage to stop spamming on their site. If price paid is less than half current price, review drops off site - I personally don't care about a review someone did of a product that they paid a penny for!

Got this for use with my grandson. I can see that as he gets older, this will be a fun, go-to book for all things cool. If you want to teach your kids (and yourself) a few things and have lots of fun in the process, get this book. It's neatly organized, each project has a difficulty rating and the diagrams are awesome. There are some really amazing ideas in there.

I bought this book to use in my classroom for my students to make some of the projects. I have been very impressed by the high quality of the illustrations and presentation. The book is full of fabulous, creative ideas. Great work!
