A proven and unique combination of learning principles and exercises, this highly acclaimed book continues to get better! Medical Terminology for Health Professions, Sixth Edition, simplifies the process of learning hundreds of complex medical terms. The See and Say pronunciation system makes pronouncing unfamiliar terms easy. Because word parts are integral to learning medical terminology, mastery of these "building blocks" is emphasized in every chapter. Organized by body system, chapters begin with an overview of the structures and functions of that system so you can relate these to the specialists, pathology, diagnostic, and treatment procedures that follow. Learning Exercises in each chapter offer a variety of formats that require written answers. Writing terms reinforces learning and provides practice to help master spelling and enhance comprehension.

This book is fantastic. It has a lots of medical terms that have the phonetical trasncription in paranthesis. Not to mention that after every word the author divides it into parts and explain to you EVERY TIME what the segments mean. And the CD at the backis awsome. I recommend for people buying it used to make sure with the seller that the book will have the cd. It has audio dictionary, interactive games, matching games, labeling images etc. I mean, really, it is the best. A bit pricey, but it's worth it.

I recently rented this as a text ebook. Spelling is an important part for this course as changing a letter here and there can mean a whole different word. The very FIRST vocabulary word in the first chapter was misspelled. Later on in the first chapter, another vocabulary word was misspelled. I checked with someone who has the print edition of the book, and those words were not misspelled in the print edition. Either is doing no quality control on their ebook conversion or there are errors in the Kindle app that are rendering the wrong letters. I am still in the beginning of this course and haven't ventured past the first chapter, but based on my experience so far, this won't be the last error I see. This is from the Kindle for Mac app and the Kindle for Android app.

For those who have just started to learn ins and outs about medical field and terminology this is a great book. It gives you little summaries about each condition and mentions treatment as well. Abbriviations are used all the time in the medical field so for those who want to work in the field this is perfect.

NCCA Certified Clinical Medical Assistant Exam , since our instructor had told us to use this book for the national exam since some questions have terminologies in it and hence i purchased this book and got lucky

This is a review of the product itself. The graphics and descriptions of the medical terms are helpful in grasping the concepts. Unfortunately, the text has quite a few errors and some referenced figures are missing/incorrectly labeled. Here are some examples:"A chalazion (kah-LAY-zee-on), also known as an internal stye, is a localized swelling inside the eyelid resulting from obstruction a sebaceous gland."the obstruction of"Refraction is an examination procedure to determine an eye's refractive error so that the best corrective lenses to be prescribed."to/canHopefully the next edition will be better.

I am using this text for a medical etymology course and, by and large, it serves its purpose well. Because this is not intended primarily as an etymological text, there are many shortcuts and omissions of literal etymological roots. Often the authors simply state what a word part refers to, instead of offering an accurate translation of origin. Nonetheless, it is an excellent foundation for understanding medical terminology, and a little extra insight given in lecture rounds this off as a sufficient etymological text, as well.

I can't compare with other books because I haven't bought any, but this is a very good resource. Love the CD since it provides games and other ways to learn the material that are fun and work best with how you learn.

This book is great for learning medical terms as well as medical procedures. I think that its broken down in such a way that even if you don't have any medical knowledge you are still able to grasp the concepts that are taught in the book.
