Like another reviewer, I would have preferred it to have been more about how the roles look like for the mom, dad, and children. Specific examples of how the parents handled situations with the children, how the parents handled conflict between themselves. It's easy to say "this is a heart issue," but less easy to understand how conquering a heart issue translates into real life. I love Nicholeen's book, A House United, but his was all information I either read off her site or in her books/talks she did. There was nothing new. The story was corny at times, but I didn't mind so much - and it does sound like it's just a book advocating for you to buy another book of the authors.I wish they would have given us real ideas for connecting to our kids hearts, things to say specifically when addressing certain issues, etc.Roles are very important, but when you tell your children their role is to obey, learn, help one another, unlike the kids in this book, real life kids don't quite understand why we are telling them this. When I talked to my 13 year old about roles, he acted like it went straight out of his ear and I do t feel it was enough understanding for him. How does knowing their roles free them? To a child, that simply gives the, the picture of they are in bondage to their parents requests and naturally, our spirits want to fight that with power struggles. I just let my son know I love him and am here to help him and it's not his job to do anything other than obey, learn, respect and love his family & himself. He did not feel "free" like the kids in this book did, and neither do I- my role is teacher, mentor, spiritual advisor, disciplinary, etc, etc etc. THOSE are hard shoes to fill. It's overwhelming. I didn't get he "freedom" she spoke of in the book.
