I bought this book for a class at a university. It was an easy read and easy to understand, but not overly interesting. It is a typical sociology book. Most people who buy this book will be students required to purchase it for class. However, if you are the rare person considering this book as an addition to your library, I suggest rethinking your decision. I suspect that the people who find this subject matter interesting already know everything in the book. It is written on a very basic level. If you are looking for a book to improve your marriage, look elsewhere. This book offers theoretical ways to have a successful relationship, but like too many sociology books it has little practical relevance. For example, this book teaches that a successful relationship will have optimal balances of cohesion, flexibility and communication. While that principal is probably correct the application is vague.

I purchased this book as a requirement for my online family class. I personally felt that this book was difficult for me to understand because it contained too much statistics and percentages. I like books that are easy to read and understand. I feel that the authors put more "percentages" in this book than necessary. To top that off, my instructor had "closed-book" tests that contained questions that asked for "what percent of so and so" I normally don't write reviews but I just wanted to give any college students needing this book for their class a heads up. I liked this book for its content but I disliked this book due to the overuse of statistics in it. That is why I gave it two stars.

This book is as bogus as the class itself. Its common sense written in 1000 pages. Nothing that you did not know before. The book can be summarized in 100 words. Total nonsense! The only reason I had to read it was due to college course, I can not believe any one will read such nonsense for pleasure. As far as academics is concerned, this is liberal arts - so...!

The book was very thorough. It touched on all aspects of relationships from all race, creed, culture, divorce, finances.Science of family systems & structure helped us understand the dynamics of healthy relationships & famillies.Very educational & practical

I received this book for my class in a very timely manner in great condition and for a great price. It is a good book so I decided to keep it instead of resale. This vendor was reliable and dependable too.

Very Readable. Got an "A" in the class

this is one of the best books i have had the pleasure in reading. it an indepth detail on the understand for the modern family. i really have enjoyed my class at arizona western college, i am take fas220 it is a thought provoking course and i would recommend it along with the book to enchance a relationship and understaning of yourself and the mate.

This book is missing the entire first portion ask the way up to page 5. So studying for chapter one is nearly impossible. I had to get copies made from the library for the pages this book was missing.
