Spurgeon's Color Atlas Of Large Animal Anatomy: The Essentials
Available To Downloads

Extraordinary accuracy and beautiful original artwork are just two features readers will find in this new resource, providing a basic foundation in domestic large animal anatomy. Its unique organization includes the anatomy of all organ systems in the various species, described in a consistent manner. The book presents relevant anatomy of the following species: * Horse (with contributors by Dr. Gayle Trotter) * Ox (with contributions by Dr. Fran Garry) * Sheep and goat (with contributions by Dr. Joan Bowen) * Llama and alpaca (with contributions by Dr. LaRue Johnson) * Swine (with contributions by Dr. LaRue Johnson) * and chicken (with contributions by Dr. John Avens). Features that enhance understanding: * Carefully selected labeling helps students learn and remember structures and relationships. * Male and female of a given species are depicted on facing pages so that topographic anatomy is easy to compare. * Structures common to various animals are labeled several times, whereas unique structrur5es are labeled only on one or two species so students can make rapid distinctions of the structures peculiar to certain animals. * An introduction provides readers with a background in nomenclature and anatomic orientation so they can benefit from the atlas even if they lack training in anatomy. The Atlas depicts topographic relationships of major organs in a simple, yet technically accurate presentation that's free of extraneous detail so that those using the atlas can concentrate on the essential aspects of anatomy.

I am a fourth year vet student and have found this book to be a great clinical reference book. It is an especially useful tool for rectal palpation - an essential skill for any large animal practitioner to master. I highly recommend Spurgeon's Atlas to anyone interested in large animal anatomy.

This book is an excellent resource for the serious student of veterinary medicine and clinician alike. The pictures and illustrations are so complete it is almost as good as a virtual dissection. The format is easily moved through and the quality of the book in material, picture, discussion, etc. are authoritative and extremely helpful to the novice and allow for quick reference for the experienced clinician.

As a vet student, this book has really helped me study large animal anatomy. The horse and goat pages are especially useful, including common clinical problems. I think this book would be wonderful for animal owners wanting to get a better idea of anatomy.

I purchased this book for my Veterinary A&P II large animal class and it was far more informative than our textbook. I highly recommend this book if you are in Veterinary school. All of the pictures are in full color and very descriptive as far as where the muscles are, etc. A great study aid!

Fantastic book, the colour plates with their detail are fautless. One of my co-workers was very interested in it for her T.A.F.E. students (Equine nursing), many who are quite young and just learning. The simplicity of discription is extremly user friendly. Even some of the Veterinairians that I work with were very impressed, and say that they would use it for a quick refresher reference book.

This is by far my favorite textbook in the veterinary technology program I am in. It is an excellent resource for anatomical structures for those of us without a large animal background. It is sufficiently detailed for a tech program (cannot speak for vet students), presents the pictures in an uncluttered manner, and definitely helped me to pass the midterm. You may be tempted just to look up pictures of relevant structures online, but the quality, detail, and ease of reference provided by this book is worth the price. It is also light, so easily transportable in a backpack.

I would recommend this atlas over any of the atlases recommended by my school. The labeling is clear, and the pictures are really nice. It was especially great for horse and ruminant anatomy. Also good for helping picture organs in 3 dimensions.

Needed this for my animal anatomy and physiology class and this was the best price I found for this manual new. Not sure I am going to love this class but the book has great colorful diagrams that help visualize complex systems with ease.
