This used to be a very good derm atlas. 2013 edition is an example of cost cutting by the publisher. The book "lost" almost 100 pages comparing with the previous edition: the pages are of cheap qulity, very difficult to flip through as pages are sticking together; pictures got smaller; text is difficult to read etc etc etc. This is sad...
It is a good book but has terrible binding! The bindings break after 2 months of regular usage. I never forcefully lay it flat or expose it to heat or anything, but the binding breaks and the book is barely usable now.
I haven't actually read this book yet, just glanced through the pages and looked at some of the headings and photos and couple of the sections. The photos alone are worth the price. The ICD-9 and ICD-10 codes are listed right under every topic. I love the way that the content is organized, and it is the perfect size---not too heavy or unwieldy. I will definitely be using this book a lot. Wish it came in hardcover though.
As a fourth year medical student, I was looking for something concise enough to read in 1-2 weeks yet with enough detail for someone interested in dermatology. I also wanted color pictures. I'm not sure this book fits the bill completely. It does have plenty of visuals and is proving to be an easy read so far, but it is much more detailed than expected. I will really have to hustle to get through everything before my rotation ends.My main gripe, though, is the poor editing. I have been reading this book for only three days and have caught at LEAST 3 errors related to spelling or grammar. For example, on page 19, "fare skin" is listed as a predisposing factor for irritant contact dermatitis. On page 61, this sentence exists: "For doses, warnings, and side effects." Where is the rest of the sentence? Whoever is editing this book needs to do a better job or hire me, because errors like these are embarrassing and decrease the credibility of any text.
This is a great book. Lots of pictures great information. The text flows smoothly the reference areas are comprehensive. I love having it as an ebook I can have it every where I go.
The web is great and you can get dozen of picuters if you know what to search. But this gives you the basic wide knowledge to be able do recognize different conditions.
Pictures are worth 1000 words when it comes to Dermatology. I like the quick and easy look-up that I get with this book.
This book is amazing! Super helpful having descriptions and pictures side by side while studying. Unfortunately, the binding on this book did not last. I just purchased this book for my summer semester while began at the end of May, and while studying for my dermatology exam the binding has already broken and random pages have torn off. Great book, mediocre quality.
