I bought this book for my class of Latin American students who were learning English as a second language. The grammar exercises in this book were well-written and accurate, and the organization of the material into short chapters makes it easy to teach this material in a classroom. This book was an excellent resource because it explains the concepts in Spanish, which makes the experience more familiar and less overwhelming for the students. A few words of advice - this material is somewhat advanced, so those who have never studied grammar formally (e.g., some of my students had quit school in their 8th grade) may struggle a little with some of the concepts (e.g., what is an adjective). Also, if you are an ESL teacher, you should also be able to read Spanish if you want to use this book, since it explains the concepts in Spanish. I enjoyed this book since it made teaching easy - I needed only about 15 min. of preparation time before each class when I was teaching one of these chapters. Finally, if you are teaching an ESL class, I recommend you use at least one additional book for the purpose of learning vocabulary and practicing pronunciation, since this book really only covers grammar.

I am very pleased with my purchase. I am trying to learn english. And my professor encouraged me to buy this book. She is a very nice teacher although a little too funny at times, but aren't all language teachers that way. This book provides all the grammar rules I need to know to write good sentences and to read well and yes sometimes soon to speak well in sentences to. Thank you.
I find this book quite difficult for the spanish-speaking adult student who I am working with. Any spanish-speaking person would need a high level of education in his own language to comprehend the explanations and directions. My student is perhaps educated through grade school.This would be a good book for someone who is advanced in the spanish language.There are lines for answers, but they are close together, perhaps college-ruled or closer, so the handwriting would have to be fairly small.A good point about this book is that the answers are in the back.There are 127 pages of workbook pages, then there are two appendices and the answers, and one page of an index. Total pages: 143
Instructions and rules of language and grammar are explained in Spanish with activities done in English to show the application of the rules, etc of English. English grammar is crazy to learn as a first language. This helps the student of English use their understanding of grammar and sentences in their own language to learn how we twist them around in English and why. We swapped this book for the ones we were using for ESL. This is now our primary lesson book and they love it !! I ordered them each their own copy and now they are studying with their family in between our arranged classes. Happiness all around!
I ordered these for several ESOL students in my classes. As level 1 ESOL students, they spoke little or no English. I used this workbook to supplement other activities for these students. At the end of the semester, I could see a definite improvement in their mechanics, usage and grammar (in English). Again, this book was used in addition to other resources, including ESOL educational websites.
I bought this book for an ESL class that I teach, and while I wouldn't normally depend on native language material to suppliment my course, sometimes students feel more comfortable learning in their native language. The book reviews complex verb structures and other difficult processes like phrasal verbs and relative pronouns, but it would be nice if it had a section on when to use articles or no article, and other seemingly basic, but hard to acquire structures.
My sister in law is newly arrived from the Dominican republic and doesn't know a word of english. She absolutely loves this book, it is so helpful to her learn the language and she is so excited. I'm so glad I found it!!
