Provides a framework for understanding the enormous amount of information available on psychoactive substances. Stafford relays the history, botany, chemistry, physical and mental effects, forms, sources, and preparations of LSD—the most potent and representative of class of drugs called psychedelics. Stafford claims that psychedelics offer surprising benefits to society and he explores the record of promising studies that were truncated in the 1960s, along with a commentary of developments since that time.

When i saw this copy in the book store I was really excited. It has a artsy cover and on the back it says " Psychedelics is a wealth of information about one of the most controversial issues of modern times. Stafford weaves scientific research, personal accounts and popular literature into".. oh hell, you can read the back cover for yourself here on .com. Trouble is,it purports to be a book about general psychedelics. Its not. A better title would have been LSD emerging, history and development of LSD or something similar. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed the writing, style and the information. Perhaps it was a publishers decision and Stafford was left out of the decision process. But if your looking for a good book on the history, development, major player in LSD this is a great start. My 2003 copy has 191 pages.

an entertaining and informed primer that achieves a lot with a friendly manner and a concise approach. Features some interesting sidelines on the various personalities involved through the years and contains some fascinating images and photos. Most who will be attracted to this book (government officials notwithstanding) will already have a lot of this information in their libraries; Stafford does, however, deliver an amusing and informative overview that can be taken in a manageable but worthwhile dose.I enjoyed it!

Consider: YES!Chose 4/5 because it was easy to read and still though you know a lot in this book already it is a nice perspective.
