I teach ESL, and used Focus on Grammar 4 and 5 for the first time this year. I am very pleased with the organization and content of the Focus series. The articles and stories are interesting; many of them are educating in themselves. The grammar is thoroughly explained with clear examples. The exercises are thoughtfully planned, helping learners to notice the grammar and use it, and each exercise builds on previous exercises in what is required. The review tests that follow every few chapters are a great way for learners to review and see what they have learned. The illustrations are colorful and pleasing. I have used several grammar series, and this is the best I have found to date.
i was hoping this would measure up to the wonderful F.O.G 3 that came with my TESOL course a few years ago. I use the FOG 3 often for a variety of exercises with students and it is really effective. This #5 was priced less than others so I took advantage of this great price when I decided to buy it. Although it has a similar format it somehow the exercises are not as user friendly, encouraging or fun like the FOG 3. I will never use it so deposited it in the school's resource room for others.
Excelent grammar book for people who wants to improve their English. Im an ESL student and this book has definitely helped me a lot.It has tons of exercises, readings and grammar rules.
I bought this book and I recived exactly what was written in the description, barely used, came with the cd and still smelled new. Related with the book, it is supposed to be and advance grammar book and is exactly what it is, I had studied ftom other books and may be because are no that advanced, the explanations are more clear than in this one. The explanation of rules is complicated a little bit. Even with an English teacher was to hard to teach. The book has good information, but bad examples.
