My 6 year old (1st grade) homeschooler finished Level A in December of 2012, and we started this book in January. We do a page, front and back, 5 days a week. We should finish Level B by May 2013. We LOVE MCP and will continue with Level C when we are ready for that one :)This book goes further than more sounds than taught in Level A including:- hard and soft consonants (such as g,c)- r-controlled vowels- more variety of diagraphs- contractions- endings- suffixes- vowel pairs- vowel diagraphs like 'oo', 'au', 'aw'- dipthongs like 'ou','ow', 'oy', and 'ew'- prefixes- synonyms, anonyms- homophonesThere is much more WRITING than Level A and the lessons have lots of variety including unscrambling words, crossword puzzles, word ladders, selecting the right word from a word box to fill in the blank, circling the right word, and reading stories with fill-in-the-blank comprehension. The word ladders are a bit too challenging for my daughter. We skip those and are using Daily Word Ladders: Grades 1-2: 150+ Reproducible Word Study Lessons That Help Kids Boost Reading, Vocabulary, Spelling and Phonics Skills! For comparison, MCP Level B gives 4 word ladders per page with only the first and last word of each ladder. The children just have to figure out how to get to the last word of each ladder on their own. Daily Word Ladders gives one ladder per page, the beginning word, and clues (definition + which letter to change) to help the child figure out the next word. Once she can do the word ladders without clues, we'll do the ones in this book.If you wanted to make the word ladders easier, you could also give your children a word bank :)

We homeschool and i've used this series with two children so far, and was so disappointed that i couldn't find the levels they need this year at .ca - i'm starting a third on this series this fall, as well. We homeschool and i find that my littles need some drill as well as practice writing - these books are colorful, fun, with many varied activities, bright illustrations and poems throughout. They cover most of what i want my littles to learn (we haven't finished the series but i do supplement with other texts, depending on my children's weaknesses). These workbooks are never the work the littles groan about doing and i like being able to explain and let them do the work quietly while i help the next child.

Modern Curriculum Press Plaid Phonics: Level BThis series is great. I have used them as a Montessori teacher and also as a suppliment to a son with Dyslexia. I liked the easy progression and colorful interesting pages. We look forward to working through the next level. Once my son mastered reading this was an excellent choice for mastering writing.

I have used the MCP series for over 15 years. This year our school started a new reading series and it is so weak in the phonics work that I added MCP back into the class work.

We changed from another phonics program to this one and we're so glad we did! My son always wants to do phonics first now (instead of last!). The colors are great with a good variety of exercises reinforcing the lesson. It's to the point without a lot of "fluff". But, seems to be a good, complete phonics curriculum.

We used this book during the summer, and my daughter's school also incorporates It into the curriculum. The activities are fun, and challenging. We used this as a prep for my six year old daughter going into grade one. I highly recommend this book.

I have used these books in homeschooling for some time now. This was the first time I received this book and the innards were completely different and lacking than the others I have purchased all in the same year. The copy I received is closely related to the A book than to the B level.

I was a little concerned about this since there is no option to "look inside". (You can see some examples on christianbook.com). The pages are colorful, without being distracting, nice photos used for pictures rather than cartoons. Lots of images that should appeal to a young child--animals, children, outdoorsy things etc. It seems that there is a lot of review in this series from level to level, which is fine for me--my daughter tends to be nervous at the beginning of a new year about what "hard" things she'll have to learn so it's nice to transition slowly into bigger words. My daughter was still not a confident reader at the end of first grade so I thought this would be non-threatening to her. You certainly don't have to do every page if your child doesn't need it.
