my kids liked the book so much I got all eight of them they're cute and colorful fun to read its good practice for learning similar sounds I truly recommend this weather the child is having a hard time reading or a good reader still a good book for practice I have a child with adhd and one who is gifted and both loved this book and read it over and over and understood the related sound
Used with young readers to support phonic patterns. Great, silly ways of looking at rhyming words. The list allows for illustrated practice of individual words, then on the following pages, they use the rhyming words in a sentence for further practice.
...is fantastic! Congratulations to Brian P. Cleary and newcomer Jason Miskimins whose illustrations helped bring Cleary's words alive. I teach reading, and this new series allows the new reader to learn step by step. There is one title each for long vowel sounds, short vowel sounds, blends, consonant digraphs, inflectional endings and more. The author of the Words are CATegorical series, which explained in rhyme, the parts of speech has brought his rhymes and his humor to this all-important series using phonics and fun and repetition to teach reading.
This series is great for sound awareness and reading--my kids (ages 5 and 6) love it, and it has encouraged a lot of freewheeling rhyming in our family. I wish I could purchase the whole series, but it doesn't seem to come in paperback form. I hope the publisher puts out a paperbook box set.
