Got this as a gift. Overall, I have enjoyed writing in this book, though I wonder if there are not better ones out there. Or if I could make one that is better.Positive There are prompts to help focus the writing (which distinguishes this from a blank notebook). the last two are blank, you can write on any topic. The pages fold out and look like envelopes, which you can date and seal. The sweet, calm colors look classy. Mail-themed stickers are included to seal pages. There is plenty of room to write a page of notes and some small space to draw, on one of the folds. You can fit an extra sheet or two of paper in each envelope, if you want to add a small photo, notes, etc.Negatives There are only a few pages in this book. Difficult to write on when you get to the middle of the page (the book suggests you put a magazine under the page to keep it flat). Some of the prompts seem to overlap in scope (that might be just me). The stickers aren't nearly enough to seal the envelopes. Additional stickers or tape is necessary to keep out curious eyes.
What can I say to you my child, what words of wisdom can I give to you to carry with you into the future? As soon as I held this "paper time capsule" in my hands I could think of the many things I wish I could have said to my son to take with him as he looks forward to raising his own family. This little book filled me with emotion as I held it, even though it was blank, perhaps beckoning me to fill in the pages even though that baby I once held is a man.Time is ever so precious, especially when things seem so hectic, so stressful, yet joyous with a new life that has come into the world. The letters will be written, only to be read by your baby way into the future. That baby will have a glimpse into your heart, finding out what you wished for his or her future, what you thought the moments after you gave birth, and even thoughts of what you want that tiny baby to experience when those booties turn into shoes that dwarf your own. Perhaps you will fill those letters out in the wee hours of the night or when your little one is taking a nap. Each "page" is a letter that can be unfolded, written on with love, and sent into the future. These special delivery letters are personal ones that will be sealed with a kiss from the heart and a sticker from the back of the book. There's a small section on each letter that can be dated when sealed and instructions for when it's to be opened. As I held these blank letters in my hand, even though they were not filled out, I almost wanted to go back in time to write my own messages to my son. These letters will undoubtedly be cherished and will be a gift that will be unlike any other a mother can give to her child. This book courtesy of the author.
I really loved this idea and not only gifted these to other expecting friend but bought one for myself. However, I have found some limitations to the book function itself. The pages provided are rather short, especially when answering some of these topics as well as the envelopes are not able to be removed easily. This may be to keep the book together but if you want to give these at different times, it can make it difficult to remove them to do so. I'm finding that the stuff I wrote won't fit on the pages provided so I'm going to have to use other paper and envelopes (since the paper is attached) which is unfortunate. The idea and topics are really great but it can be hard to utilize the whole book for its function. These all are dependent on how much you write and how you plan to disperse the letters. For some this will work but for others, it may be a waste to buy the book. The topics were really the only useful things for myself personally.
This little book was given to me as a gift, and it's one of the best baby gifts I think I've received. I have traditional baby books, but none of them really offer an opportunity to really write anything substantive to my daughter. I love how some of the letters have prompts (it would never have occurred to me to write to her about what her first house is like, but I wish I had a record of the house I was born in) and others are left blank. Yesterday I used one of the blank ones to try to record what it feels like to be a new parent before the strange, amazing sensation of experiencing a whole new kind of love becomes a normal part of my life and I forget what my life was like before she was here. And I'm going to slowly fill out the "you make me laugh when..." letter over time so that it can serve as a record of different things that happen in our life. I'm going to give this as a gift to other friends when they have babies now.
This book is an amazing start to a wonderful gift. It's a beautifully packaged way to share your thoughts, your dreams, your hopes, and your experiences with who your child is yet to be. Work through it for your own child. Give it to a parent-to-be. Do one page yourself and ask family or friends to each take a page. You can go completely overboard and include photos and ephemera, or keep it simple and stripped down - however 'simple' sharing your heart in words on paper is. Or maybe draw. Collage. Whatever works for sharing that message.
