"Unlawful Seizure" by Baylee Rose....I give this book a 5 star rating. Her writing is outstanding, keeping me on the edge and I did not want to put the book down. Baylee's writing style is not something I read every day....This book is a dual POV, but she also uses an inner monologue that is so clearly written that we don't have to wonder whose thoughts they are.***Tessa is a paralegal that works for a state appointed defense attorney who is beyond caring about his clients.***Max is serving time in prison for murder. Today is yet another parole hearing for him after being turned down previously.***Today is one of many days that the attorney Tessa works for decides to take a few days off work for a weekend away with his wife. When he calls Tessa to tell her that he won't be into the office, she reminds him that he has a court date and he tells her to go in his place.When Tessa awoke this morning sick with a migraine she takes that as a warning to not go to work. She also reads her horoscope for the day that tells her not to leave her house. When her boss calls she has no choice but to go to the prison in his place, but when she gets outside she finds she has a flat tire and calls for service. She wonders how many more signs can there be to stay home....Tessa doesn't want to go but she knows Max's case better than anyone in the office because she is the one that prepares all of the paperwork for the court and she doesn't want to let Max down, even though she has never personally met him.Tessa makes it to the prison early and asks to meet Max before the hearing. The prison guard tells her to wait a moment and he returns with Max. When Max and Tessa meet, he notices right away how beautiful she is and refuses to let her help him.
What a great book! I am a big Jordan Marie fan so when I read her latest book, The Perfect Stroke, and found out that she published under the name Baylee Rose as well, I had to get both books in this series bc Ms. Marie/Rose is one of my favorite authors.This book was a lot of fun to read. We have Max, the tattoo artist in jail for murdering someone who killed his first wife and the hilariously wonderful Tess, who kinda fell in love with Max on paper when she read his case file while working as a paralegal in the legal office that is representing Max at his parole hearing. Tess is sent to represent Max at the parole hearing but unfortunately there is a prison riot/break and Max ends up taking Tess hostage and escapes from prison. While on the lam, the two go from lust to like to love, and the reader gets to go on a journey with them as the try to figure out how they can stay together as a couple, and build a life together under really difficult circumstances.I really loved the characters, especially Tess, she was spunky, independent, knew how to handle all kinds of alpha maleness from Max while being absolutely hilarious. I liked Max a lot too, although at times he acted like a real butt face in his attempts to either protect Tess from a heartbreak or to protect his own heart. Like a typical alpha, he sometimes made unilateral decisions without discussing it with Tess first, which of course royally pissed her off! I also really liked Marcum, Max's dad: he needs to have his own book.I must admit that part of what really pushed me to finish this book was I couldn't see how they could realistically get to an HEA. My hats off to Ms Rose who not only had a sweet ending to the story but had an ending that was believable.
