It is amazing to me how the Cussler books seem to be extremely current while dabbling in the history of the locales of the adventure. I am always so happy when a new book arrives and can hardly wait for the next one.
Definitely up to cussler' standard and beyond, this story is at once plausible & unsettling. The progression is from mid-Egyptian dynasty through the times of Napoleon and Lord Nelson to the present day. The Pharoah's secret is recovered from its early discovery in the time of the god Osiris, attempting to be used as a weapon of global domination in the present era. The pace is edge-of-the-seat tempo with the unsettling aspect on the horizon but never quite there.
I am convinced Mr. Cussler can not write a bad book and this one is no exception. Old friends on another adventure that you want to be a part of. I admit it took me a few chapters to get into this one, but don't be discouraged if you feel the same way. Because this book does click in and from that point on its the usual great ride. Lots of action, exotic settings, some james bond gadgets, and a little history lesson always keep me coming back for more.
As usual, Clive Cussler spins an epic tale of the battle of good versus evil. This time these thing is Egypt and the Sahara Desert. A group of fanatics attempts to rule Egypt and the surrounding Saharan countries by stealing their ground water and effectively causing a panic by the citizens of those countries as water supplies dry up.Kurt Austin and the usual group of NUMA agents investigate a phenomena dating back early Egypt known as the Black Mist which induces paralysis and an antidote called the Angels Breath. The agents of NUMA stumble upon a series of bizarre clues which leads to a secret society intent on ruling a major portion of Saharan Africa. This book grabs your attention and hold it through the amazing conclusion.I recommend this book to all readers who enjoy thrillers. If you've read any other of Cussler's books, you know the kind of excitement ahead!
Kurt Austin and his sidekick Joe Zavala become involved in their greatest adventure yet in "The Pharaoh's Secret". While Kurt and Joe are working in the Mediterranean, a strange mist engulfs the island of Lampedusa. The people on the island, including some of Kurt and Joe's NUMA crew, fall into a death-like sleep. Known as the Black Mist, this mysterious toxin has the power to incapacitate any who come in contact with it.Unfortunately for Kurt and Joe, a powerful man known as Tariq Shakir and his company, Osiris, are in possession of the Black Mist. Obsessed with control of not just North Africa, but Europe as well, Shakir has begun siphoning water from the countries in North Africa, threatening to kill millions of people along the way. Shakir's goal is to create governments sympathetic to him and he's using the Black Mist along with destroying the water supply to further his goals.Upon learning of the Lampedusa episode, Kurt, Joe and Renata Ambrosini, a female doctor from the island, begin to search for the clues to the antidote of the Black Mist. The search will take them from the Middle East to Europe, and the information they find will date back to the time of the Pharaohs and Napoleon. Will they find the antidote before it's too late?I'm a big fan of Cussler's various series, and Kurt Austin is one of my favorites. "The Pharaoh's Secret" carries on Cussler's tradition of writing exciting adventure stories with interesting, believable characters and loads of fast-paced action. Highly recommended.
CC rarely disappoints. Historically significant, blending the past present and future. Using such well established characters to navigate an ever morphing landscape, geographically and politically to expound the effects of the past upon our current reality.
A romp through the timeless desert of the middle east. Surprises around every turn in the tunnels beneath the pyramids, and the Nile plays into the action. True to Cussler's tradition of keeping you on edge right up to the final page.
Cliver Cussler is a fun mystery writer who takes a date in history, brings it to possibly the last century or sooner and then to the present day. Many of his twists and turns are plausible, which make them intriguing. I personally think that this was not one of his more exciting stories and seemed like an adaptation from other books. But hey, you can't expect every author to be spot on with all of their books. It is still an interesting, though not as plausible theme in contemporary scientific terms. Kirk Austen and his sidekick Joe Zavala are always inventive and fun characters who often overlap with others in Cussler's books. It is still a good read so don't hesitate to buy it. If you are a die hard follower of Clive Cussler you too may find some aspects of other tales. But it's relaxing to read and has no bullying politicians making a pitch!!
