I have used this text (or an earlier version) for my students consistently. At times I had to use other texts and there quite frankly is no other text that can compare with the level of detail provided in this text. It is extremely student friendly, with excellent diagrams and labeling exercises and it is certainly instructor friendsly with the exercises and body system descriptions. The text provides a consistent comprehensive platform for the successful facilitation of learning the material and I strongly recommend this if you care about your students and the quality of their learning experience. Kudos to the author. I've used the text(s) since 2000. Additionally, the instructors manual and disc just push this over the top relative to excellence.
Out of several textbooks purchased this semester, this is the only one I've felt was well worth what I paid for it. I was awestruck with the speed at which I received this item! With 3 exams in the same week, I ran a bit short on reading time and the CD included with the book helped me ace my first exam! I wish my other textbooks were as clear and concise as this book.
We used this in our Advanced Medical Terminology class, very good book, clear, nice pictures, thorough, came with DVD with learning games on it.
I purchased this textbook for my college class Medical Terminology I, and I ended up being able to use the book again in my Medical Terminology II class. I love this book and the CD that comes with it! The CD does not require an access code, so if the CD has been used it can still be sold to another student. The book makes it very easy to learn the word parts. On the CD there is a dictionary of words which are in the book, quizes, images, and a word part dictionary. The CD helped me greatly, it complements the book nicely. I would def. recommend this book to another student!
GOOD: The book follows a logical order and reinforces information with extensive exercises. It contains a lot of pictures and diagrams to visualize the information. The book definitely serves its purpose, especially if you're preparing to sit for the RMT exam.BAD: The CD-Rom contains a ridiculous amount of errors. The field of medicine requires accuracy, no matter what your position or career is in it, including authors and publishers of medical books. If you pay attention to the book and consider the CD-Rom to be purely for your review and enjoyment then you'll likely be able to turn a blind eye to the errors, but if you're relying on the CD-Rom to give accurate information, such as definitions (which is where most of the errors are), then you'll be sorely disappointed with it. Here are 3 examples from the 4th chapter definitions on the CD-Rom:1. Hyperglycemia: Condition of excessive or high blood pressure; diabetes mellitus. [Hyperglycemia is excessive sugar in the bloodstream, not excessive blood pressure.]2. Hypoglycemia: High levels of sugar in the bloodstream; diabetes mellitus. [Hypo- means below or less than, not high or greater than.]3. Diameter: Measurement between opposite for example, blood vessel or intestine) points on the periphery of a circular body part (for example, blood vessel or intestine). [Yup, that's for real.]I'd rate the book 5 stars but the CD-Rom 1 star.
I am a biology major who is now going to Physician Assistant school. I decided to take a medical terminology course before I headed off to school. I took it online and this textbook was required. Up until this textbook, I never enjoyed a textbook...that's right, I said "enjoyed"!The author does an excellent job providing useful exercises and applications to build your understanding of medical terminology. She offers plenty of repetitive opportunities to cement the new vocabulary in your mind.Not only is the book great for a college class, it is a great book for anyone who just want to learn medical terminology. I loved it!
This book was exactly as advertised, shipped quickly (student prime shipping) in new condition and AMAZING. I was really worried that I would struggle with all the terminology memorization but the lengthy reviews available in this book at the end of every chapter really help to reinforce what you're learning from every angle. The cd it comes with is a big help, too!
