I am a new nurse, and I must say that math has NEVER been my strong suit. This book covers everything you need to know to calculate all your meds. It even goes an extra mile and gives you a step-by-step tutorial for all your basic math just as if you are first at grade school. I found it made everything I needed to know for all my tests during school and the boards, easy to learn. I recommend it for any student in nursing.
Explanations and examples are outstanding. If you are stressed out about math for the pharmacy technicians course this is really a fantastic aid.
I have been a nurse for over three decades but forgot how to do some of the basic math needed to calculate medications. Unit dose medications has eliminated the need for these calculations, yet hiring hospitals still require passage of a drug calculation test. This book was very helpful in that it reviewed some basic math and had appropriate drug related problems to solve. I was able to renew my drug calculation skills and passed the test at my new employer!!! Met all my expectations and beyond!!
I hope you never need Medical Dosage Calculations For Dummies, but chances are if you live long enough someone you care about will benefit from you having a copy. A fall put me in the hospital and there followed--like a too long extended episode of House--many medical misadventures. As a result I know how important correct medical dosage is. `Life or Death' isn't melodramatic in this case. Calculating dosage can be unexpectedly confusing and you don't want to wing it.Medical Dosage Calculations For Dummies provides the reader with quick, straightforward help in this important task. Whether the user is an experienced healthcare provider tackling some new medication, or a family member called upon to help with medicine, I see this book as an indispensible reference in time of need. The book is so well organized that both complex and straightforward problems can be identified and solved. When you have more time to look over the book you will find humorous asides and interesting facts that help give a broader understanding of the concepts. There is an elegant sparseness to explanations of the math involved, which helps to give immediate confidence (and answers) to the reader. The professional healthcare provider will find the latest best practices employed throughout. Give a copy to someone you love.
It explains well, per chapters, in layman's term, but while this book says "practice" is very essential in overcoming Math trepidation, especially word problems, this book does not have any word problems questions and answers practice section and step-by-step solutions that I need, which I may encounter in the real nurse profession once I finish my nursing schooling. I know my basic Math, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fraction, decimals and percentage, otherwise I would not have made it in the HESI nursing entrance exams in the university I am in right now, but have difficulties in Math word problems, that I have to address through much needed practice. This book, in short, is not for me....just consulted my Pharmacology professor and she advised me the book, Math for Meds, just purchased one in , used one, I hoped this will give me answer to my problems, meaning, a lot of exercises with step-by-step solutions, don't know yet, but I hoped this will help me with my Math issues
This book lays it out good, easy to understand. I am a pharmacy technician student, it has covered everything I need to know.
Simple language makes the different. Our dosage calculation is a self study course with 15 minute quizzes every other week. This helps keep the stress down.
Never saw a Dummies book that can be used for nursing. I think it is useful for both...nursing school and the field if you want to rehash calculations before applying for a job.
