Excellent workbook for 1st grade phonics. Pages have a list of words that are seen, said and written (on a line with a picture). This is the 2nd in a series of 6. This one is equipped with several pages of each of the long vowel words (a-e ,e-e, o-e, i-e, u-e). Other pages have these same words, but in sentence format to print or to answer questions. One of the best I have used with students.
I have been teaching for 20 years. I used the Primary Phonics series with my son. I use it any time I have a student who is unable to read after having the district approved reading series...whatever that may be. I like the way the children can be successful. I also like the way it makes the children think. I especially like that after a little bit of explanation, a child can do the work independently. This is great when I do groups. I usually buy the first three Primary Phonics Workbooks together. That way, I do not have the problem that the red book was easy and done quickly and NOW we have to wait for the second book. Also, some children have enough knowledge that they can start with book 2 or book 3.
review EPS workbook 2In thirty years of using the EPS system to help children learn to read I have never found another as effective as this one. Not even close. These EPS readers and workbooks introduce phonics concepts in a progression that is logical and truly consistent. They give the children plenty of practice as new letter combinations are added. This second set of readers and workbook introduce long vowel words. The readers that go with it stick to a limited set of long vowel words but Barbara Makar was amazingly creative with this limited vocabulary.
Since schools have drifted away from phonics I love this workbook. They have the readers that go with each work book. Start with the consonant book and then get workbook 1 and 2. The consonant book allows kid to look at a picture and fill in the first sound. Gradually difficulty is increased. Book 1 works mostly on short vowels and book 2 works mostly on long vowels. After workbook 2, unless your child is stuggling with reading - probably more fun books to read. Also nice because kids can work independently on books.
I've successfully raised two literate 4 year olds thanks to Primary Phonics. I love its no frills, no gimmicks, old-fashioned approach. Kids are actually READING, not memorizing sight words. I recommend this series to everyone who asks how I taught my kids to read so early.
I really like this series. Unlike other phonics workbooks we've tried (Seton and Explode the Code) these pictures are decipherable by a 5 year old. My son can do his work almost entirely on his own. The exercises are a little repetitive, but I think that is helpful in cementing the concept and helping them begin to spell correctly.
I have taught pre-school through high school students for over 25 years. This workbook teaches phonics in a clear, easy and accessible way. This workbook 2 emphasizes long vowels, magic e, and two vowels together. You write words and sentences. Students love these books because they are easy to understand and provide mastery of the material. These are the best phonics materials on the market. I teach teachers how to teach reading, and recommend these books.
Fast shipping, goes with my Primary Phonics books that came in my Montessori program.
