This book was a required purchase for our daughter's education program and she felt it was well written, made good use of examples and offered activities and techniques that she will be able to use in her curriculum to help her kids advance their word-use skills.Initially, her instructor started with Ganske's Word Sorts and More book (Word Sorts and More: Sound, Pattern, and Meaning Explorations K-3 (Solving Problems in the Teaching of Literacy)), which our daughter found very interesting. This book, Mindful of Words, progresses forward from there.It was also very nice to be able to get it here for much less than her campus book store was asking, and was delivered quickly too.Recommended if you are in the same situation, or if you are home schooling.
Great resource to use with small groups or tutoring. I teach 8th grade and work with some students who have spelling deficiencies. They are able to sort the words and then generate their own spelling patterns and rules. They also enjoy the discussions about word origins.
I like this book because it is helpful to students with dyslexia in that the author actually teaches pupils how's how to sort the words by various attributes.Also, the author breaks down the meaning of the base words and how meaning changes once a prefix or suffix is added to the word.Easy to use and good explanation of concepts.
