This book was great! The system used in this to teach cursive was just incredible. Great for me and my child. Highly recommended for home teachers.
I am a third grade teacher and have to teach cursive to students who have only written in print. This book takes students slowly through the process. What I like the most is the organization of this book. It groups the letters based on how they are written. For example, it begins with 'mountain climbers' (letters that are written by starting on the bottom line and going upwards). So students first learn how to write, t, i, r, s, w etc. They all use the same hand movements, which helps students to learn them quicker. The book also contains ideas for creative teaching besides the worksheets. I loved how the book talked about how some letters "hold feet" (s, e, t etc.) and that some letters "hold hands" (w, b). It helped students understand that when writing "be" you wouldn't drop back down to the bottom line to begin the "e" which is a common problem with students.
As a homeschooling mom I got so tired of ordering books that sounded good and had potential just to find out that were, yet again, another "trace the letter" book. I was about to give up when I read about this book and ordered it. My daughter and I both love it. The lessons are short and clear and spice up learning cursive. It is good for groups or one student at a time. I would reccomend using this with struggling writers or before you ever start teaching cursive. Hope that helps!
I am using this with a Third Grade class. They love the little extras as well as the cursive writing practice.
This was a nice book to introduce my 1st grader (at the time) to cursive. And I'm glad I did because we moved to France and they teach cursive in kindergarten, so I was glad I had taken the time to teach him some cursive using this book. I just wish there was a bit more meat to the book.
I purchased this book to teach my daughters how to write in cursive since their school system no longer teaches it. (what a shame). This is a great book to make copies from to home school or supplement your child's education.
As a second grade teacher I'm always looking for fun ways to teach my students. This book is a terrific resource for teaching cursive. The pages are easy for the children to complete and give them a solid base for learning to write in cursive.
Great practices - I just wish that the pages were "erasable" so I could have my other children practice too, without 'tracing' over what was already done.
