I've recently taken up saltwater fishing and have purchased a few "how to" books. This is the best by far. I found the narrative and photographs to be quite informative and easy to understand. Loads of practical information. Great rigging pictures and explanations how to use. Authour gives "fishing tips" by the fish which are very insightful & helpful. Apply some of the tips already and have a few halibut and yellow tail to prove it.Very well presenetd and written.
The book is abit basic but provides a good review for the experienced fisherman and an good source for forgotten knots and techniques. For the beginning fisherman the book is excellent. I hadn't fished for over 20 years and I found the book to be a good refresher for me and recommend it for all but the experienced fisherman.
I am a novice and needed as much info as possible. It is a very informative book with detailed diagrams and pictures. Very helpful. It was better than expected.
This book includes everything a person needs to know about fishing in saltwater, also a complete guide on every type of fish. I highly recommend it.
The information in this book is very complete. It assumes little knowledge of saltwater fishing and gives a great overview and how-to on many different types of fishing. If you are new into the world of saltwater fishing it is a great way to find out information on different types fishing in saltwater. If you are like me and are very versed in specific kids of fishing (surf fishing), it is a great way to open your eyes to new types of fishing in the same water. A couple issues I have with the book are: 1.Overly cautious (understandable for lawsuits I guess). Every part of this book elaborates on safety tips, which I deem sometimes too safe; Just my thought. 2. Not a lot of information on any one thing. While it does do a good job describing all the types of fishing, it fails to provide in-depth writing on any one topic. But, as this book is a general book in nature, I am ok with the writing it provides on the various topics. Thing I like are: 1. Species coverage. It covers many different types of saltwater game fish and multiple ways to fish them, where to fish them, and baits to use. 2. Color pictures of a lot if different species. This book is a must buy for any fan of saltwater fishing.
Covers the basics quickly, though some parts are a bit uneven such as the equipment section. Knots are good. Where this book shines is the latter 40% where individual species and the best techniques and recommended tackle weights are covered. I'd say the beginning part is 3 stars and the latter part heads toward 5. Recommended. Even if one is more advanced, one always can learn something and it's worth a read.
I haven't been saltwater fishing for 40 years, but plan to get back into it this year... good pointers as well as refresher on some items... but a lot of new stuff for me.... interesting reading
For me the book is too basic, after reading it I was with lots of questions that the book does not knew the answer. I hoped that the photos of the species of fish were to color and medium size that allows you to identify the differences, in its place the photos are very small and in black and white. The chapter of knots have small graphics, so learn from this is not easy. Could be better. Is to much money for the knowledge value of the book.
