This textbook provides a glimpse at healthcare beyond the political debate. It gives readers an introduction to concepts such as: Epidemiology, Effects of Class on Healthcare, Doctor-Patient Interactions, and even the Role of Physicians in society. One aspect I found particularly interesting was the section on hospital organization, which describes a type of class system within these large healthcare organizations. This book acts as a great primer for healthcare in general, and the role of medicine within our society. It is a great book for health care providers and anyone interested in studying healthcare.
This is a wonderful book. However... Make sure you have up to date glasses if you need them. The print is smaller, and not very bold. If your eyes are not where they should be, read this in the DAYTIME! I only need it for a 7 week Med Soc class, and back it goes.
Although it was required for my Medical Sociology class, the book is an enjoyable read. Not like a regular "textbook". Refers to current research and outcomes. It is not written in hard to understand research-type language. Good reference for reading other materials. There is an 11th edition, but our class required the 10th edition. So the author apparently keeps updating.
I am currently applying to med school and I think this book does an amazing job in guiding the reader through the current sociological issues in the field of medicine. Brilliant piece of work!
shipped the book extremely quick and at a great price. It is a softcover text, smaller than the usual size but in good condition with no missing pages and no excessive highlighting. I'll be doing all my text rentals from from now on.
This book was a required book for a class in medical sociology. I has some very good points in human behaviour and public health. The book was very informative with interesting concepts.
I actually enjoyed having to read this textbook for class. It really gives an in depth look at the sociology behind healthcare. A must-read for anyone considering becoming a health care professional.
Provided a good general understanding of health-related sociology topics. Print was a bit on the smaller side in the paperback version I had. Was useful for classes.
