As an illustrator, I find it fascinating to learn a little about what made these legends tick - their educations, techniques, working style, etc. As a reader of children's literature, my mind is blown by these artists bodies of work and their ability feed my imagination. Ms. Meyer has done a wonderful job of presenting the information behind these great artists. And we get to see plenty of illustrations which remind us of the contribution each of these artists made to children's literature.
beautiful illustrations as one would expect and want, and good background coverage of the greats of children's illustrators, but i'd like a more comprehensive list of illustrators, there are only the most well-known, arthur rackham, edmund dulac, edward lear, beatrix potter, etc.
Saw this book in a reference section atan antiquarian book fair. Decided I HAD to buy it for my art-book-collecting brother. It is a great collection of illustrators of children's literature, and is filled with great info and many fantastic illustrations!!
Excellent book and very fun to read. There is a more lengthy biography for each artist than in some of the illustrator collection books I have run into so far. There is a nice selection of pictures to go with each person. I'm just having a lot of fun with it. I love reading about other people's lives, and especially about those who have had so much skill and whose artwork was such a blessing to me, growing up in a very abusive home. Somehow, much of the work of these illustrators calmed me and helped me retain hope that life would someday gain greater meaning and joy. It did, thanks to the Lord Jesus Christ who "heals the broken hearted."
I'm totally happy with this beautiful book. It was delivered quickly as described and the book is wonderful. I know I'm going to have many hours of pleasure reading this and looking at the amazing illustrations.
