This book has been a big help in revising my Perianesthesia orientation. I like the way it puts a question at the forefront of items & paragraphs, such as "Why do I see....?" This organization promotes critical thinking in a clinical setting versus memorization of facts.
This book has been used to help with the education on newly hired staff, also it was used to study for Specialty Certification. I would highly recommend this book as a staple in your PACU library.
This book is extremely thorough and complete regarding the subject of perianesthesia. Using it now to study for the certification exam. It's laid out well and info is easy to understand.

As for a nurse, this book is a good one. My wife works in the recovery room, she reeds this one as a refresher when she needs to.

As an open heart ICU RN of many years I was initially drawn to skim this text to compare what PACU recovery texts might have offer. The first pg. I opened addressed Airway Issues. In Chpt 4 I read re: basic understanding of the oxygen hemoglobin dissociation curve, " Events that shift the curve to the left such as acidosis and hyperthermia..."This is exactly the OPPOSITE of the curve: factors which shift the curve to the right are hyperthermia, 2,3 DPG, PCo2 and acidosis (increased lactic acid) as these are states where the tissues need O2 and the curve describes the the off loading of o2 to the tissues. I have not yet read the entire text but this is a foundational concept that critical care RN's known who are new to the ICU and it makes me wonder- if you can't get this basic definition down, what trust can I have in the remainder of the text ?
