I just purchased the updated version of this book since mine has become very outdated since I graduated from nursing school seven years ago... This book does a great job of outlining the basics of what various tests are looking for, normal results, and what abnormal results could indicate. It also tells you pre-test and post- test nursing considerations. The book is divided into sections of laboratory tests and diagnostic tests, so you can easily flip to a section to find what you're looking for.The book is better at lab tests; the informaiton on imaging studies and such isn't as helpful. For instance, a DEXAscan was not included in this version and I've had difficutly with other tests as well.Overall, great reference material which I refer to often.
You will never want to go to a nursing clinical withouth this book! I found the material to be easily understood and found exactly what I was looking for with it's excellent glossery and index. It is similiar to having a palm pilot in my hands! I was able to impress my instructors and my colleagues with information on diagnosis and labs. What an amazing book!
This book is so amazing. It has everything I need as a nursing student and I can see myself continuing to use it as a staff nurse. It describes each lab test, tells you the lab values, what color top to draw it in, what it means if the values are low/high, any type of things you need to do prior to the procedure, and what you as a nurse (or nursing student in my case) need to know/do. The back part of the book has information about all of the diagnostic tests (ECG, EEG, etc). Very much worth the money. If you are a nursing student, this will help you on the lab value part of your care plan. When your instructor asks you why the patients XYZ values are high, you will be able to use this book to understand why. Get this now!
I love this book! It is clear concise and easy to follow. It has helped me with many clinical write ups in nursing school. I can find what I need fast and it also gives possible reasons for high and low values which really helps when writing up care plans. All of the tests are in alphabetical order, so you don't have to spend a lot of time looking through the index to find out what page the information is on. This is probably my favorite reference book for nursing school.
This book is a must for any nursing student! It has been incredibly helpful with writing care plans. There has not yet been a test that I have looked up that was not featured in this book. Very easy to understand.
This is a much better book than the Mosby's book they had us buy for school.
I'm a second year nursing student and I purchased this book for clinicals this semester. We have progressed to the point where it is necessary to be able to connect lab work with the patient diagnosis and this book does a great job of pointing out the indications of various lab values.I highly recommend this book to any nursing student.
I am a nursing student and I use this book for the labs and diagnostics section of my pre-clinical write up. It has all of the information I need! It's easy to use which makes my write up a lot faster!
