3/10/12 This book has errors. IE: questions ch2 questions 8,10,11 have WRONG corresponding letters (a,b,c,d). the rationale is correct. I am trying to contact publisher and author. Second Edition much better!Sandra McNash RN CNOR3/11/12 I successfully contacted one of the authors, Barbara Putrycus, the publisher is making corrections. If you purchase the book directly from Elsevier you will also get the corrections. If you purcheased it elsewhere call Elsevier. Sandra McNash RN CNOR
Agree with the previous comments. There are several errors in this edition. I have the previous edition as well, and I do prefer it over the newest. Overall, I think these study guides are good for getting your "critical thinking" juices flowing, but the best bet, in my opinion, is to take the practice exams on the ASPAN website, if you are considering taking the CPAN exam. They are extremely helpful.
Elsevier is aware of the errors and has corrected the problems. For customers who have already bought the book, please contact Customer Service at 1-800-545-2522 and mention part number 9996090566 to receive the corrections. For customers who are looking to buy the book, the corrections will be shipped with the book. We sincerely apologize for any problems this may have caused.
As many of the previous reviews state, this book has many errors in their answers to the exam questions and if you are trying to prepare for a (very expensive) exam and think you've gotten the most updated standards & guidelines....this book is a recipe for disaster! I bought this book before it actually came out and I only wish I had waited a few weeks to get some feedback. I already have the previous addition (the purple one) but was worried some info would be outdated or no longer the practice...WRONG. It does me no good to now have to call in and have someone send me a separate pamphlet with the corrected errors (and not a REPRINTED BOOK WITH THE CORRECT ANSWERS ALREADY IN IT!). Big mistake and as long as I now have doubt as to the accuracy of the books content, I have no interest in trusting any of it...will stick with my other resources. Just hate I wasted my money.:-(
I am scheduled to take the CPAN in one month. Unfortunately, I purchased this book new when it first came out and soon after studying it I noticed it was LOADED with errors. The book is expensive and the errors are unbelieveable! It is hard to believe this book was published and printed. Two other nurses bought this book and only one of us had a correction sheet, but it is hard to follow and there are even more errors than on the sheet. I feel I was cheated out of my hard earned money. This should not have happened.
First of all publishing a book with this many errors is just wrong. But then when you know it has errors and you have a supplement with the corrections and don't send it with the book takes it to an even higher level of incompetence. Sell a defective product then make the buyer have to track down the fix. Will not be buying or recommending this author or publisher again
DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK!! I have this one and the previous edition, some questions are the same, but the answers are different. The rationale is for the answer that the book should have written as being correct. You will learn the wrong things if you study this book. Buy the previous edition, it is helpful.
This text was okay but I found that the older edition (the purple one)was better. I had both and in the end, I put this one on the shelf and went back to the purple one. Many of these questions were repetitive of the older edition. The question and answer format was very helpful to me with the rationales in the back of the text. There are many incorrect answers printed in this edition. The correct answer printed was incorrect but the rationale was correct but did not reflect the printed "A","B", "C" answers listed. I even contacted ASPAN and they took the information, stating that they would send out an addendum to those who have purchased the text with hopes to correct the errors but I have yet to receive this information. Overall, a good reference for me, just confusing when I reached the questions that were incorrect. Best of luck with testing!
