Plato was a philosopher in Ancient Greece. He was an essential figure in the development of philosophy, especially the Western tradition, and he founded the Academy in Athens, the first institution of higher learning in the Western world. Plato's dialogues have been used to teach a range of subjects, including philosophy, logic, ethics, rhetoric, religion and mathematics. His lasting themes include Platonic love, the theory of forms, the five regimes, innate knowledge, among others. If you read...if you think at all beyond what's for dinner and how the Giants did last night, get this book. Plato's been a benchmark for human thought since Pericles. Thomas Jefferson read him, so you'll be in good company. And even though he sometimes sounds to the political right of Barry Goldwater, he usually just makes you go hmmmm.
Good translation but useless academically without the numbering convention used to quote.
I have got a complete set of Plato but in Chinese translation. So good to see this E-Set.
