Excellent resources for the professional home health care nurse. The book opens with a discussion of home health care concept of care including a thorough discussion about Medicare Conditions of Participation which should be followed for Medicare reimbursement but which most third party payors and insurances are following as well. Part Two presents the Medicare OASIS and how it is used to establish the 60 day period of care for the patient and how it is OASIS item are used as data in the Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement process. Part Three breaks down each physical assessment area and what assessment items should be noted then examined to establish the plan of care including common ICD-9 diagnoses. Parts Four covers explanation of Hospice Palliative Care and Medicare coverage requirements. This has been very handy during times when a home health patient may need to be transitioned to hospice care and helps home health nurses understand coordination of care needs. The section also helps when there is a shortage of hospice nurses and a home health nurse needs to cover temporarily which happens in some home health/hospice combination agencies. Part Six provides a thorough discussion of Medicare Chapter 7 which is the Medicare Benefit policy manual. Part Seven provides a list of common NANDA nursing diagnoses which are helpful in guiding the nursing process while providing care under the physicians CMS 485 Plan of Care. Part Eight provides a list of common abbreviations used in charting as well as Do Not Use Abbreviations. Part Nine offers guidance on Medical Equipment and Supply Considerations. Part Ten is a comprehensive list of Evidence based resources and guidelines. Appendices A-D provides a brief table of Case Mix points, supplies points, and Final rule tables.
