If you are looking for a workbook to help with comprehension that doesn't include just mindless stories this is it. The stories are short and good and I use it for my daughter's reading time each afternoon that is included in her homework. This way I can make certain that she is truly reading something because of the three or four questions after the story. It's a great book for practice...I like that it includes some non fiction passages as well as fiction. I like that she may be learning something unintended.
I bought these to improve and build the confidence of my 3rd grader. I also bought the 3rd grade version, but my daughter is struggling to understand what she reads even though she is excelling at actually reading, sort of a strange thing going on. She gets thinking about individual words so much she doesn't see the full story. These are helping very much. The questions are well put together and thought provoking.
These worksheets are great, the stories are interesting and just the right length and a good reading level for those heading into 2nd grade but likely not very challenging for a student already in the 2nd grade level. The comprehensive multiple choice questions after each story are good and follow the main topics of the story. I liked this because it includes fiction, nonfiction and biographical stories. I gave 4 stars only because for the money it is not very long, my 7 yr old completed this workbook in 4 days.
I am very happy with the results after my son has gone over this exercise book for reading comprehension. I would give him one subject a day on top of his regular homework. After completing all the exercises in this book, his grades improved from a C to an A!
This has helped my seven year old son pick out the main idea of a story. He is a very strong reader. I was having trouble explaining to him how to find the main point of a story, and this workbook did the trick! I really like this book a small practice for my daughter to practice and track down how much does she understand the paragraph, it's not boring at all and easy to practice several subject each night. Good exercise so I don't need to ask her questions each time she read a book
I have been using this to help my son in reading comprehension. The stories are very short with a few questions. It doesn't look like much but he jumped two reading levels since we started. He is in 2nd grade.
Excellent book! My second grader actually enjoys reading the stories in here, and the comprehension pages are more than just questions and answers. There are a variety of puzzles and activities, as well as some questions, to assess comprehension. Also, the book covers a great variety of reading comprehension skills. Highly recommend.
