I would love to give these cards 5 stars but I cant for the price of the cards these cards are extremely flimsy feels like construction paper. However the concept is good so I dont regret my purchase.Update- 9/26/2012 Although these cards are flimsy they have been extremely helpful .I suggest buying the grade 3 through 5th grade vocabulary these cards have improved my childrens reading , writing and comprehension.I hope you find this helpful.
I am concerned my sons are not getting vocabulary and spelling words at the elementary school level. I find these cards a great way to supplement what I feel is an important part of elementary education. My husband goes over them after dinner and they have picked up on them quickly. We also have them practice spelling the words. When I was in elementary school, we had vocabulary tests, spelling bees, etc. I'm a great speller today and I attribute it to a solid foundation started in elementary school. My boys are awful spellers and they get marked down on essays because of this but it's never been a part of the curriculum. How the times have changed!!!
These are what you see. My only complaint is that ever flash card is on very flimsy paper. It feels almost thinner than normal printer paper. The problem with that, is it's not really possible for my son to just take these and go through them himself for practice.
I bought the 3rd, 4th and 5th grade sets of these for my daughter to expand her vocabulary. I like them, except I wish the definitions were on the opposite side of the card than the word, to make them better flashcards for tests. I have to create a test myself, manually, which would be eliminated by this simple reconstruction.
These are just what we needed! My 5th grader has always had some trouble reading at grade level. We've tried every method and curriculum, it seems. She doesn't learn well phonetically so these cards have really helped her to learn new words she may encounter at her level, plus she learns the meaning, not just how to read the word. Since she does best with sight words, this is the way to go for her. We go through 4 or 5 each day. We homeschool and this has been a great addition to get her up to grade level quicker and keep her on pace as she advances. Pretty sure this year she will test at grade level! Exciting for both of us.
These are a wonderful help for students. As a tutor I have found them to be extremely helpful and can highly recommend them.
I got this item at Costco for my son going into K! He learn to start reading in Pre K. This product has really helped him start sounding words out better. Becuase of this product he is a stronger reader. He will be going into K reading and being in the top reading class. We work with product atleast 3 days a week. I would tell anyone that has a child learning to read buy this product.
My 4 year old and I have fun with this set. It's easy to use and the "markers" on the box that show your points helps my competitive child keep working on the cards to get more "points". Great product.
