This was a nice collection of essays on how to view family therapy through another person's perspective. A variety of viewpoints were offered, though our teacher felt it was lacking in the LGBT lens.
Invaluable for my personality, culture and ethics courses in college. A great read for anyone interested in understanding individuals and how they interact within and between different cultural backgrounds.
This review is based on this book being a required text for my Diversity class for my masters in Marriage and Family Therapy. It sheds light on how diversity has to evolve in the field. It has come a long way but I guess there is a little bit more to go. I have only read one chapter so I don't feel fair giving a full review.
I got this book for a class on family therapy and I really enjoyed it! The articles included provide a nuanced understanding of how various social identities can affect the family and the therapeutic process. Highly recommended!
Hardy and McGoldrick point that it is necessary to consider that dominant ideologies have deep impact in the family therapists interventions and comprehension of the interpersonnal dynamics of families. The chapters offer many provocative reflections about ways to reconsider our preconceptions. The book offers a review of main stream family therapy in order to actualize it in a society more democratic and with multiple cultural backgrounds.
The book provides a comprehensive variety of scenarios that therapists and future therapists will face in their practice when dealing with populations of diversity. It is an excellent book to have in one's library.
This book has different perspectives and it touches on both familiar and unfamiliar topics involving Race/Culture/Gender in Family Therapy. A good classroom book and not a boring read.
This is a great book, and covers family therapy from the multicultural perspective. The narratives McGoldrick gives of her life are great insight and cause us to ponder how we may or may not think in similar ways - excellent text!
