Development Through Life: A Psychosocial Approach
Available To Downloads

Newman and Newman use a chronological approach to present development across the life span, drawing on the psychosocial theory of Erik Erikson to provide a conceptual framework for the text. The authors address physical, intellectual, social, and emotional growth in all life stages, focusing on the idea that development results from the interdependence of these areas at every stage, and placing special emphasis on optimal development through life.

I don't usually rate text books because they are stupid expensive. I am in my masters program for psychology, I have to say this book is the best Ive ever read it has a lot of really good info and is literally in order as children age and become elderly. This is one of the fewest books that I wish I bought and not rent

While the writing style of this large volume of precious material is at times hard to parce, in all I found it to be filled with essential educational material on the stages of our lives. How tragic are some stories when no one who understands the stages is available to lessen the stresses and sorrows. Yet, how fulfilling it is to finish the book and then go back to review one's own stages. Some stages needed better attention. Others were intuitively cared for somehow.Terrific work. A bit on toxic stress and trauma and attachment together---perhaps a few footnotes---could send a student on a great adventure. That said, there are a plethora of issues to delve into and no text can point to all cunning issues.Good work. As a student, I thank the authors.

This was required reading for a class, and while the information was useful, the writing was atrocious. Repetitive, long-winded, very droll. I'm not expecting much from a textbook, which makes this that much worse. Paragraphs repeat themselves, concepts are explained and re-explained seemingly at random, and there were more than a few instances in which a concept would be employed, but not explained until much later in the chapter, leading to a sense of aimlessness and confusion. It worked for the class, but I'm glad I don't own it.

The chapters are very long but I feel like this is just because a lot of it is just information repeated but rephrased, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, just makes reading a little tedious. Otherwise, great read.

Even my professors call reading this book "a slog." I did a work count, and I found that there is so much text on any one page that reading one page of this book is like reading FOUR pages of most other books. At the same time, there is a great deal to process emotionally. A thoughtful person can't help but read the material with their own life experiences in mind, which is a LOT to integrate. While the authors sure need a good copyeditor (typos in the book abound), I doubt that there is ANY better overview of the interplay and impact of the physical, neurological, emotional, and sociological changes a human being undergoes from conception until death. What is more, the book is readable, enjoyable, practical, and carefully thorough. Bravo to the Newmans!

Exactly what I needed in the time I needed it

Unfortunately, this book is missing about 20 pages. I didn't notice until the end of the quarter when my professor assigned particular pages that were gone, not missing but omitted.

Great book! I am renting the ebook. Now that I rented, I love the book and wish that I could buy up to use as a resource for my remaining years of grad school.
