If you are a father with a daughter, you need to read this book!
This book was helpful to me not as a dad but as an Uncle. I got stuck in an airport and decided to pick this up because it was affordable. I am "Uncle" to lots of kids. Friends' kids and my own siblings. Nieces and Nephews alike. As an Uncle I often don't know how to answer questions from 7year olds. I don't want to step on her parents toes. I want to be a good Uncle and here is a sample of what I learned as a guy with no kids of his own. They lose an opportunity to learn and advance if you don't let them fail sometimes. One thing that has been hard for me was knowing if I should cast down some wisdom, or let her figure it out on her own. It was helpful to me hearing what a dad had to say."Kill negative thoughts...it's not enough to have her just think rainbows and butterflies all day long." That makes sense, keep realistic, but still positive.
This is a great resource; not only for fathers but for parents. The author goes into a much needed topic in the age of social media, societal pressures, and day to day parenting. This book is a great conversation starter for use during parenting groups, men's retreats, and individual personal improvement. The keys to helping caring fathers become better dads for their daughters is wrapped up in this timely book.
I chose to read this book to learn a little more about being a better parent and I actually received lessons on being a better person! You know how you get unexplainable chills when you hear an amazing singer sing an incredibly touching song? When that happens to me I like to think of it as experiencing a brief moment of God's greatness shining through another human for my edification. I had several of those moments when reading the Father's Guide to Raising Daughters. The author not only imparted helpful tips to increase our daughters' self-esteem, self-image, and self-respect but he also explained (very profoundly) exactly why we as parents need to invest the time to build our children up and how we can improve ourselves in the process.I would recommend this book to all parents as the author's advice is truly applicable to both Fathers and Mothers of male and female children.
