Best map I've found for our touring around Ecudaor, and it goes into a bit more depth than a Lonely Planet" type of tourist map (nothing against Lonely Planet guide, we never travel without one). Hpwever, for actual navigation by map, get a Spanish Language map as it will make a great "pointie-talkie" if you are not handy with Espanol. We have found the best combo is this map, the Spanish map, our GPS, and a smattering of Espanol knowledge, will always provide a firing solution for the day's excursion.

This map has all the features one wants in a high quality map: eminently readable; chock full of information- roads, sites, topography, even forest cover; good index of towns; and tough tear resistant material. Wish there was a map this good of Colombia as well!

I would suggest to National Geographic to use the copious amounts of unused space on this map for blow-ups of city maps rather than very large pictures of birds and coastal photos. In my opinion, this map could be a lot better just by adding two city maps, Cuenca and Quito...there is plenty of real estate for that...and more.

If you are looking for a nice quality map of Ecuador, this is an excellent source. With just about every city labeled on the map, you can find exactly what you are looking for.

This map has almost no value for the road traveler. We found that most major highways are not marked with the correct route numbers, many roads missing and the 2 major cities of Guayaquil and Quito have useless road information. Needs to be updated, corrected and add city maps. What an embarrassment for National Geographic and a headache for those who use it.

Alert! Recommend that you DO NOT purchase this map. It is outdated. Does not show the location of the new Quito airport (now 2 years old). Also, I found the map bulky and challenging to fold for specific areas and usage. I regret getting this map (think the map is 8 years old).

This map was of limited use on our driving tour of mostly northern Ecuador, but so was the Ovi map on our Nokia phone. New roads have been built, existing roads upgraded. You have to expect that driving in Ecuador will be an adventure, so the map is appropriately named.

This map is missing a surprising amount of detail, and a lot of what is there is inaccurate. There are many missing roads and towns that are fairly major and that one would expect to find on a map offered by National Geo. About half of all the roads we took had numbers indicated on the map that were not the numbers of the actual roads. (THAT can be disorienting!!) It is OK for finding your way from one part of the country to another, if you are taking public transportation and leaving the driving to someone else. If you plan to rent a car and drive around the country, this map can cause you to become seriously lost. Use it to plan your trip, but buy a better map once you get to the country.
