I've started getting back into philosophy recently and as I do I continue to be more and more impressed with Russell. Many of the works here are available in freeware format but a few, like the Intro to Mathematical Philosophy aren't. Well technically even that is but its an awful version where someone scanned the hardcopy and its hard to read and you can't annotate the way you can a real Kindle book. So I decided to spring for this book and am really glad I did. BTW, if you are interested in the foundations of math I highly recommend the Intro to Mathematical Philosophy. Its kind of like Chomsky's Syntactic Structures, very small but so dense with ideas it can take one... well me anyway... an hour just to read a few pages. But its worth the effort. Such fascinating ideas. The other thing I like about Russell is he wasn't just an ivory tower philosopher. He wrote some his most important early works from a jail cell for refusing to support the insanity of the first world war. He was also an atheist before it became trendy ;) Philosophy often gets a bad rap these days from many scientific people I know and i agree there is a lot of philosophy out there that deserves to be dissed. But Russell is one of the good ones, rigorous, analytical, and substantive. If you want a workout for your brain these works are as good as it gets.
Collected writing, probably printed straight from the Gutenberg project. It's a great book to have for the content, the way it's bound leaves some things to be desired:1- It's printed on non-recycled paper, for such a big book, I do feel guilty2- the central binding seems a bit flimsy, not sure it'll hold when i get closer to the center of the book3- No page numbers! This is a big one, what? why?
Good to get this kindle copy with out high price. Russell has always been my favorite writer whatever he wrote, there is something that could be applied nowadays. Proud to be one of the kindle millions reader.
