Available To Downloads

Andy Thompson's true-to-life, graphic and gripping account of his work as an NHS paramedic in Britain's A&E emergency Ambulance Service will shock you, sadden you, entertain you, and perhaps inspire you. You'll smile at some of Andy's real patient encounters, while others will cause you to wipe a tear. Using official NHS documentation recorded at the time to give precise details of each incident, Andy has held firm to the real-life accounts, even in keeping the dialogue as close as his memory allows to what was really said at the time. It's as if you're there next to him, struggling with the effects of adrenaline and fighting to save life. This is a rare work of medical non-fiction delivered in a way that is factual, informative, but at the same time naturally entertaining and moving, written with candour and humour. And if you have ever thought what it takes to become a paramedic - or any other of the specialist vocations - and that you could never achieve it yourself, Andy's inspiring story of how he went from postman to frontline healthcare professional, fulfilling his dream, will make you think again that anything is possible if you have the desire. Andy says there are no heroics in the book and that he simply did his job, but we are sure The Dark Side will leave you convinced there are true heroes on our streets right here, right now. Saving lives every day, every night and often against all the odds. It might even change your whole perspective on life.

I found the author's accounts very interesting, but more than merely entertaining the reader, he showed the step by step procedures that allow paramedics to deal with sudden accidents or illnesses and give their patients the best chance of survival. I've always been in awe of their abilities, and I still am, but I now have a better understanding of the methodical way they treat whatever they're confronted with.

A brilliantly written book with real life accounts of what its like to work as a paramedic. Andy is inspirational in his journey to becoming a fully qualified paramedic and proves that with hard work and determination, anything is possible. If you are remotley squeamish, i wouldn't recommend this as a book for you as it is in places very graphic. Having said that, its refreshing to read a book which is totally honest to the basic facts of life that people get injured, ill and inevitably we all die. Ive just download Andy's second book and am hoping its just as good.

Best EMS book I have had the pleasure of reading. The author did a fantastic job of explaining the terms of the paramedic job and of life on the job as a paramedic, and the level of empathy for his patients and partners made the book gripping as well as humrous. HIGHLY recommended for anyone who is in EMS. I could not put the book down, and read the entire book from cover to cover. After 17 years as an EMT I put this book at #1 on my EMS reading list. Well done!

Really great read, being an American I had to learn some of the slang, got to love the British, I want him on my side in an emergency. well written, truthful, heartfelt stories. Can't wait for any more books he writes, I read part 2 already, good job Mr. Thompson.

While it is yet another account of life on the road as a NHS paramedic, it gives a different perspective again. I found this book enjoyable and an easy read, though not for the faint hearted, it wasn't sensationalist either.Worthwhile.

I really tried to get into this book but found it confusing.Thought process on writing book not on point. But tried to see what author had to describe. This is a parametric works in UK. This appeal s to me if your into british books. Not Well spaced.fast paced if you like fast paced books. Anyway Have Happy Easter Chris Or Pamela.

It was okay. Too much clinical relating, almost as though he were worried about a law suit and wanted to cover his behind by telling EVERYTHING he did step by step.
