I'm so happy I ordered this book. I'm new to critical care nursing in a consortium and this book has better explained things and helped to tie it all together from the lectures. If you have been out of school for a while the A&P reviews of systems at the beginning of the chapters are to the point, short but with enough info to jog your memory.
Thelans Critical Care Nursing books are excellent. I used this book to study while I was a Critical Care RN. I took and passed the CCRN exam. Every question that that I remembered was covered in this book. This book is an excellent resourse and a "must have" if you are serious about sitting for the CCRN exam or just becomming a knowledgeable critical care nurse.
I rented this book on for a class. I loved it so much I turned around and bought it. I still use this book often. It is easy to read and understand, yet thoroughly extensive and in depth. This was my favorite book for all of nursing school. I wish I started my first semester with this book. It will definitely stay with me for the rest of my career.
Some of my classmates said this text was a bit over their heads, and they're probably right, but I found this to be a rich resource and served as a great book for my critical care course in my ADN program. Used it frequently as my main text resource and earned one of the 4 A's in the class!
Lots of contradictions. Poorly organized (even the way their sentences are written). While reviewing with my study group we caught a typo on a chart that was in her book and not mine, same edition, same exact book. I find that pretty unacceptable, especially when you are dealing with critical care issues. I needed this book for a class but if you have the option of which book to pick I would not choose this one!
Definitely the best nursing textbook I have come across. Some of the information is complicated, but so is the field of critical care. This books cuts out a lot of the "fluff" other nursing textbooks have and gets straight to the important information you need to know.
This book is not for the novice. It has a lot of good information but is not well organized. It also presumes you already have a basic knowledge about caring for critically ill patients.
the book has definitely been a big help with passing the class. i had to read the book cover to cover. although the lectures helped, the book went into so much more detail and helped with better understanding. ICU students should definitely get it!
