These Cliff note are excellent...I bought them with Seamus Heaney's translation. Last time I read Beowulf was 50 years ago... it was terrific to buy the CN and for a buck extra be able to download them on my computer immediately. At 76 years old I don't have time to futz around.
I bought this for my daughter since Beowulf is not the easiest thing to read. Her teacher has Spark Notes and Cliff Notes and all other kinds of Notes, so she makes sure the test questions don't come from info covered in the guides. That wasn't an issue because the guide helped my kiddo understand the story, it wasn't just for cramming. Great study aid, but not great if you don't want to read the book.
One of my favorite stories. This is exactly what I was looking for to get yet another idea/interpretation of Beowulf. Cliffs Notes do not tell the story of Beowulf. It only gives some food for thought. I only use CN as a supplement when I read a more difficult text. Now, if Cliffs Notes would do the same for Gilgamesh...
This is a helpful guide. I used it for homeschooling my 8th grader. We read the book Beowulf, and watched the movie. It is difficult to just read the book. This guide really helped him understand the story.
My 17 year old dauhter has really struggled with this book. She has to read it for her 12th grade english class. These cliff notes made all the difference.
As usual Cliff Notes gives very useful and clear synopsis of a classic work of literature. Makes the original book so much clearer.
I thought it was difficult to work with. Would have preferred a capsulated version. I didnt have the poem in front of me - wanted to explain the story to my grandaughter before watching the movie
An insightful overview of the classic although it did not present anything new to me that I hadn't already perceived.
