First, some housekeeping. I came across one of these as a Kindle Unlimited freebie, and then went a little nuts trying to nail down exactly what books were what. Here it is. There are three Kindle books. All three are Kindle Unlimited freebies, which is sort of the point because they are great browsers, as freebies. The main book is "Best Books: Recommended Reading-...". It is also available as a paperback, but that paperback is titled "The Book of Books". Don't be fooled; they are the same book. The next book is "Best Fiction: Book Recommendations-...". It is shorter than the main book, but has about 200 more fiction selections. The third and final book is "Best Children's Books:...".The Books all follow the same general format. They are divided into various categories, which are pretty idiosyncratic. The categories aren't quite as quirky as "Books Written By Left-Handed People", but there are some odd ones, ("Animal Behavior", "Dogs", "Tiny Things"). That might throw a purist for a loop, but for a general interest browser this vaguely surreal approach to categories was sort of fun. Each category gets about a dozen entries. Each entry gets a very brief synopsis and a rather breezy few paragraphs of commentary. This isn't Cliff's Notes; the idea is to provide just a passing glance and a little something to whet the browser's interest. The more obscure the book, the more earnest the description. The more well known the book, (e.g. "Moby Dick"), the breezier the description. Especially in the main book the feel is more like an annotated version of a birder's life list, allowing browsers to mentally check off the books they've read or at least are familiar with.
