This book is a great resource for any parent who has a child with social challenges. I have two children who struggle with social situations everyday. They at times feel lost in the "how to's" of making friends, what to say and when, tone of voice (self modulation), anxiety and shyness, listening skills, conversation skills, taking responsibility, etc., This book gave me specific answers to my questions and strategies to help my children feel more confident in their everyday interactions with their classmates, friends and family members.I would recommend this book to any parent who wants to support their child in learning the social skills they need to feel more confident and gain self-esteem.
Once your child starts talking and put into social situations with others there is alot to contemplate and teach them. How to Make and Keep Friends is a great teaching tool that every parent should read and make great, positive decisions on what to their child needs to learn socially before becoming a successful person for the rest of their long ,happy, lives. This book is an easy going read with a positive interaction on every page. As a new parent you will not want to put it down. As a veteran parent this book is a great review in making sure your child becomes all they can be and having, lasting meaningful relationships that will last a lifetime.Brad Canfield-Proud Parent
This book is a wonderful resource for parents and educators trying to help children navigate their way through social challenges. Donna and Nadine offer tips for handling common social situations with which children have difficulty. They recommend language that we can use with children to explain abstract concepts and help them understand. All of the suggestions are very practical and can be put to use in everyday situations. Best of all, their recommended strategies involve approaching these challenges in a positive manner, which can make the child feel accepted and understood. As a speech-language pathologist working with elementary school students, I especially like that my use of their strategies provides a model for other children, parents, and teachers so that they too can help and become more accepting of social challenges. I highly recommend it!
Donna and Nadine do an excellent job of getting into the minds of special needs kids who think differently. This book provides excellent support in understanding how special kids feel and think to enable parents and educators to coach these kids in very practical ways. The book provides great practical advice to help coach special needs kids and even great advice that could help adolescents at all developmental levels. As an educator, reading this book increased my awareness of issues of special needs kids and gave practical advice and hints in coaching kids in social situations in the school setting.
This Book is Helping me as well as my 11 year old son. To keep and met new friends this book should have been out years ago, I need to keep in touch with the women that made this book, for future books or videos I would love to meet them in person, they are truly helping me.
This book is a great resource for all parents! I have two children, one is typical and one with special needs they are in 4th & 5th grade. Nadine & Donna's book is easy read, reference type book. It helps parents better understand barriers children face in certain social situations. The book also provides practical easy to follow tips including key phases and examples in coaching your children through some of these challenges. I found I am more effective helping both my children, typical and special needs, nagivagate through social situations they encounter in daily life.
