Excellent for building critical thinking skills - something that most undergraduate students do not have nor is it something that I find many professors are demanding of their students. These case studies are straightforward, concise and cover important physiological concepts in an interesting, engaging manner.
If you're taking graduate physiology, this book is a life-saver! Dr. Linda Costanzo does a great job of making abstract/difficult concepts easy to learn and master! Check out her Physiology textbook, too, if you want a book that you can actually understand!
This book is beautifully written, and organized. I love the layout of the medical cases in regard with all body systems. The physiology behind every case is phenomenally accurately explained. I love this book to pieces, and I am already in love with this author. Linda Costanzo is the BEST PHYSIOLOGIST in the world EVER :))
I can't say enough about this book. Its high yield as demonstrated by First Aids recommendation of it, my experience with it and with tests covering material in it. It's really a perfect book. Each case study highlights some important concept, they give you questions and very thorough explanations which give you a satisfying answer. It's concise and helpful and easy to use
This book is a must-have for students who wish to understand physiology inan active way of discussion. They content is very nice and you can make best of it if you read along BRS physiology by the same other. Combining both of them will guarantee very good score on exams and good basis for clinical practice. Note that if you still have time for usmle step 1 and you are IMG or a junior US medical student then consider reading this book early.
I fetched myself a copy of the book based on recommendation by Medical Student Book.com. Generally the 62 cases presented are useful to Medicine Year 1 and 2 students wishing to consolidate concepts on Physiology. Good supplement to notes and textbooks as after-class practice.
This book is a lifesaver (or rather a score saver)! I've been struggling with physiology for so long, and just didn't know how to pull my scores up. I had the other Costanzo books, but I wasn't really absorbing much. I think one of the main advantages of this book as opposed to the others is that the physiology material is presented in a strictly clinical setting, which makes it's easier to apply the material to correctly answer QBank questions. Also, I feel like the answers are written in a more conversational tone, which I like. This book is PERFECT for active learners. If you like to work through cases and write notes, this book is for you. If you can absorb material simply by reading or watching videos, you probably don't need this resource. Each case has taken me no more than 15 to 20 minutes to write out and understand. I have noticed a quick uptick in my physiology QBank scores, and for the first time, I'm understanding some major physio concepts and not just frantically trying to memorize. Plus, for me, it's a lot more engaging then just watching a video of someone regurgitating First Aid.
The book completely surpassed my expectations. It helps my understand physiology greatly due to the fact that it explains and lets you see how cases occur.
