Absolutely horrible. So many contradictions. Example: in one of the boxes is says that arculis senilis is cause by calcium deposits around the cornea of the eye, then directly below in a paragraph on the same page it says that it is caused by lipid deposits! If that's not a contradiction, then here's another one I found: In the beginning of one of the chapters it says that most abused elder are caucasian females, then a few pages later it says that the most commonly abused elders are minority females. Unbelievable errors all over this book! One section of the book states that short term memory is relatively stable in the elderly, then in another chapter it states that short term memory begins to decline!! Shall I keep going?!? It says that one of the signs of neglect is malnutrition, then when I took the practice questions provided it said that malnutrition is not a sign of neglect. One of the rationales said that thyroid function is not an indicator of elder abuse, then why was that one of the correct answers in a question about what test should the nurse anticipate when suspecting elder abuse?
Love this book in the kindle addition. You can search key words. You also have less bulk laying around the house. It is a well written book that covers the normal changes in aging. You can use it on your kindle app on which ever tablet you use.
This is a required book for my LPN to RN transition class, and overall I feel like it is a great book. It has a great layout, presents all information in a informative and non boring fashion, and has loads of great information. I'm glad this was the required book for my class.
I agree with the other 1-star ratings. Pick a different book. Contradictions everywhere. This book contradicts many nursing fundamental principles. The publisher exam questions the instructor used where based on minor detail recall. Lots of information, lot of tables and charts, lot of contradictions. Rationales completely contradict them selves from the 2nd edition chapter review questions for online resources on basic fundamental teachings. Very disappointed in the textbook.
Works horribly with Windows8. Using the search tool for the book is frustrating because it'll take minutes to search the text. Fliipping through pages is nearly impossible and loading time is incredibly long. Wish I could get my money back.
This book has a significant amount of wrong information. One part says short term memory increases with age and long term decreases WRONG. I had to use this book for my Gero class in nursing school the book was a useless as the class.
I'm preparing for the NHA exams - this book was recommend to me by the DON at JHC. This will be a keeper in my personal / professional library.
I ordered this book for a nursing class. I love how it goes into detail breaking it down to a easy level of understanding.
