I WANTED TO BUY THIS BOOK-BUTNo where on this page does it say just what is in the book. It gives all the contributors and their awards, but just not what authors and pieces of literature are in the book. I wanted to replace a textbook that was caught in a flood, a book from college that I treasured, but I want certain authors. Why didn't the publishers tell us who is included in the text and what works are in it.
I had to buy these books for my British Literature course, but still value them outside of the program. These are solid collections of great literature with informative introductions. The interior layout is also intuitive and visually satisfying. I ended up getting the set that breaks the different time periods into different books, which was way better than just having the one giant volume. Needless to say, everyone in my class was a bit jealous that I didn't have to carry around a brick.
Excellent book to get a grasp of the English literature. Other comments say people buys this mostly because it is required for college. I bought it for fun and I find it very interesting and fun to read.
Came with only volume F, will be returning.
I had to get this for class, and it was alright. There are some good works in there, and I will probably keep it around for a while. Might never read it again, but might pass it on to someone else who needs it.
filled with poetry and prose and the history of the world at the time they were written gives a depth and understanding to amazing works of english literature as women move forward as writers and the world changes through industry and war.
As an English major I definitely will be getting serious use out of this anthology. However, the fact that it was not offered in a hardcover is kind of annoying. I don't have high hopes of the paperback holding up very long.
I recently bought this book for my British Literature class and I quite enjoy it. The book itself is like having your own portable library containing the works of famous English poets such as George Gordon Byron, Samuel Taylor Coleridge and Percy Bysshe Shelley. I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in literature.
