So, you think your word processor spell checker is all you need. Wrong! I have used this book for years and reach for it often when the spell checker in my mind or the one in my computer are out to lunch. Let's see, a few bucks for the book and a few minutes to look up a word and I don't look like a stupid fool who can't spell. No question. Buy the book. It's only the cost of a lunch or a couple of cups of coffee at your favorite (barista empourium)--darn it, who borrowed my Mispeller's Dictionary? Hum...you mean this web page has no spell checker? Where's that book!
I ordered this book to help my students who simply can't spell. I'm amazed at how many students use this handy book to help them write essays and to correct their errors. My students find it quick and easy to use. They also tell me that this book helps them catch mistakes that a spell checker won't. I highly recommend this book to teachers who are looking for alternative ways to help poor spellers succeed.
This dictionery is perfect for findind how to spell a word. The words are in large print, and meanings are brief. It is paper back, which makes it easier to use. The paper is white, not recycled gray. I now have two of these. MAT in Florida
This book is helpful, but not helpful enough. It's not the book's fault though. There's limited space in your pocket. The possibilities and opportunities to spell English words wrong approach the infinite! It's not bad for an "on the go" reference, but will not suffice as an office reference. This book has, perhaps nine or ten thousand possible misspellings in a language where there are (Dare I say?) millions of misspelling pitfalls.
I've had two others before and there is no comparison.not as many words as you would expect. i immediately found thatthe word i wanted was not included. commonly misspelled words.i have no need to know the misspelling of the word along with thecorrect spelling. space could have been better used.sorry i chose the wrong one among the ones available at .combarbara tucker
My husband recently started a job where he has to document his work. He's a bright guy, but a terrible speller, and he knows it! I just wish this were copyrighted more recently than 1997, but I knew about that when I ordered it.
I'm still in a little quandary about this item. I have given this as a gift to others with whom I've worked that had spelling problems and it's been a godsend for them. In this instance I am considering giving it to my great nephew who has difficulty spelling, including difficulty finding the words in the dictionary because he doesn't know how to spell them correctly.On the one hand, it would help him to find the words in the dictionary for definitions, parts of speech, etc. Question is, would he use it like that or just to get the right spelling down and feel as though he never has to learn how to spell.So far, I'm the one that uses it...and don't laugh at me! This is a great little book of commonly misspelled words, so I use it to building spelling lessons for the two children I homeschool. It is absolutely PERFECT for this application.Would I recommend this book to others? I have and I will continue to do so. It is a tremendous aid for adults who have not learned to spell well. Use of this book can really change the impact of any writing you do, allowing the reader of your letters or articles to focus on what you're writing about rather than noticing all the words that are misspelled!
